FAST BREAKS
• Utah will head to Fullerton, Calif., to participate in the eight-team Wooden Legacy this week.
• The Utes will play three games on the week, opening the tournament against Hawaii on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 22.
• This will mark the third time that Utah has played in the Wooden Legacy, but the first time to compete since the tournament went to an eight-team format. The Utes played single games in the event back in 1996 (vs. Arizona) and 2000 (vs. USC).
• Utah is 2-0 at home this season and has won five straight games at the Huntsman Center dating back to last season.
• Utah has gone 5-3 overall in non-conference preseason tournaments since the 2015-16 season.
 
THE GAME
Utah (2-1) will tip-off the 2018 Wooden Legacy facing Hawaii (3-1) in the opening round this Thursday, Nov. 22, at Titan Gym in Fullerton, Calif. Tip-off between the Utes and Rainbow Warriors is set for 8:30 p.m. PT/9:30 p.m. MT.
 
THE 2018 WOODEN LEGACY
A total of eight teams are scheduled to play in the Wooden Legacy this week. Alongside Utah and Hawaii's side of the bracket is Seton Hall and Grand Canyon. The two winners from each contest will play on Friday, Nov. 23, at 8:30 p.m. PT. The two teams that do not advance to the championship side of the bracket will face off on Friday at 6 p.m. PT.
 
The other side of the bracket includes La Salle taking on Miami (Thursday, 11:30 a.m. PT) and Northwestern facing off against Fresno State (Thursday, 1:30 p.m. PT).
 
COVERING THE RUNNIN' UTES
Thursday's contest will air on the Utah Athletics Radio Network (ESPN 700 AM) with Bill Riley and Jimmy Soto announcing. The game will be televised on ESPN2 with Dave Feldman calling the action and Corey Williams providing color commentary.
 
SCOUTING HAWAII
The Rainbow Warriors are 3-1 overall on the season, having picked up wins against Portland (82-64), Humboldt State (90-54) and most recently, Northern Arizona (85-68). Hawaii was defeated, 68-51, to North Texas in the championship game of the Outrigger Resorts Rainbow Classic back on Nov. 11.
 
The Rainbow Warriors went 17-13 overall last season, which included an 8-8 record in the Big West Conference. Hawaii fell to UC Irvine in the BWC Tournament and failed to make the postseason a year ago.
 
Hawaii averages 77.0 points per game, while giving up 63.5 points to opponents so far this season. The Rainbow Warriors shoot .464 from the field, .356 from downtown and .647 from the charity stripe. The squad is led by Zigmars Raimo's 13.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Raimo also leads the team with a .686 field goal shooting percentage. Drew Buggs averages 8.0 points per game, but leads the team with 24 assists on the year.
 
SCOUTING GRAND CANYON/SETON HALL
The Grand Canyon Lopes are 3-1 overall heading into the Wooden Legacy. They have home wins against Delaware State (89-47), Jacksonville (76-59) and Arkansas State (96-72), but were defeated on the road at South Dakota State (79-74). The Seton Hall Pirates are 1-2 overall, having dropped two straight to Nebraska (57-80) and Saint Louis (64-66). SHU opened the season with a home win against Wagner (80-49).
 
UTAH vs. HAWAII SERIES HISTORY
Utah and Hawaii will match-up for the 60th time overall when they face each other on Thursday, but this will mark just the fifth time the two teams have faced each other on a neutral court. The last time Utah and Hawaii met in a neutral court setting came back on March 7, 1996, when the Utes defeated the Rainbow Warriors 76-63 in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, which was played in Albuquerque, N.M. Utah is 3-1 all-time when facing the Rainbow Warriors on a neutral court.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Utah got back into the winning column with a 98-63 home win over Mississippi Valley State this past Thursday in Salt Lake City. The Utes were led by Parker Van Dyke's 16 points off the bench, while Timmy Allen (13 points), Donnie Tillman (12), Charles Jones (12) and Riley Battin (12) also notched double-digit scoring efforts.
 
Jones and Van Dyke tallied four three-pointers each, while Utah finished the game with a school-record-tying 17 three-pointers overall. It matched the previous school record of 17 three-pointers the Utes tallied back on Jan. 12, 2002, against UNLV.
 
UP NEXT
Utah will play a total of three games in the Wooden Legacy this week. The Utes will face either the winner or loser of the Grand Canyon/Seton Hall match-up on Friday. A loss would pit Utah in a game at 6 p.m. PT on Friday, while a win would put them in the semifinal game at 8:30 p.m. PT. Following a day off on Saturday, the championship game is set to be played on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. PT, with consolation games to be played earlier in the day.
