TEMPE – The first batch of college football postseason awards began rolling out on Monday and the Sun Devil Football program has been well-represented thus far.

Sophomore running back Eno Benjamin was named to three All-America lists on the day, receiving the nod from the Football Writers Association of America (Second Team), the Associated Press (Third Team) and CollegeFootballNews.com (Honorable Mention).

Cohl Cabral found himself also earning a spot as an Honorable Mention from CollegeFootballNews.com while Merlin Robertson was named a True Freshman All-American by 247Sports, among the day's other announcements.

Benjamin became the first Sun Devil tailback to be named an All-American by any outlet since J.R. Redmond earned second-team honors from the AP in 1998. As far as the AP team goes, only Benjamin, Redmond, Terry Battle (2ndTeam, 1996), Darryl Harris (Honorable Mention, 1986-1987) and Willie Gittens (Honorable Mention, 1980) have ever been recognized by the outlet.

At 1,524 yards this season, he is 42 yards away from the ASU all-time single season school rushing record (1,565 yards by Woody Green in 1972). He also set the ASU school record with 277 carries this season.  Benjamin is tied for third nationally with his 1,524 rushing yards and his 15 rushing touchdowns are seventh in the country. Both totals lead the Pac-12 Conference. His 147.6 all-purpose yards per game are ninth nationally.

He is the highest-graded running back in the Pac-12 and 10th-highest graded offensive player in the Pac-12, regardless of position (81.3). His 75 first downs this season are second in the FBS while his 43 runs of 10 or more yards are 5thin the country.

Benjamin has forced 83 missed tackles this season – second-most in the FBS. He has averaged a first down or touchdown on 30.5 percent of his carries this season – 8th-most among FBS running backs with at least 200 carries this year. His 29 explosive runs this season are second among FBS running backs.

Earlier this season Benjamin set the school's single-game rushing record (No. 8 on Pac-12's all-time list) with 312 yards against Oregon State – the most by an FBS running back this season. In the same game Benjamin also set the school record for most rushing yards in a half (185) against OSU. Benjamin matched an ASU school record with 8 games this season rushing over 100 yards.

Helping pave the way for Benjamin was center Cohl Cabral, who was recognized on the CFB All-America list as an honorable mention.  Cabral was one of just 15 Power Five centers to not allow a sack this season. He was the third-highest graded center in the Pac-12 as a run blocker (63.3). Cabral had a positive run impact on 9.8 percent of plays this season, the 20th-best total among all FBS centers.

Cabral helped pace an offensive line that had six games games this year (UTSA, UW, OSU, USC, UTAH, ARIZ) with no sacks allowed. Since AT LEAST 2000, ASU had never had more than 2 games in a SEASON where it didn't allow a sack. ASU's 15 sacks allowed this season are 19th nationally and the third-lowest tally in ASU history. A year ago, ASU finished 124th in the nation with 41 sacks allowed and 119th in 2016 with 41 sacks allowed as well.

ASU hasn't finished in Top-100 in fewest sacks allowed per game since 2011 (74th). In fact, since 2003 (as far back as easily accessible team rankings go), ASU has finished in the top-100 just 3 times, and never better than 70th. ASU is currently tied for 19th in the FBS with 1.25 allowed per game.

Merlin Robertson, who was named the Pac-12 Freshman Defensive Player of the Year last week, added to his incredible first season at ASU by being tabbed a Freshman All-American by 247Sports.

His selection gives ASU at least one Freshman All-American in each of the past seven seasons. ASU has at least one freshman All-American in 13 of the last 14 seasons dating back to 2004. ASU has posted 24 freshman All-Americans in that time frame.

Robertson led the team in tackles (77), tackles for loss (8.5) and sacks (5.0) and Added an interception, two breakups, a fumble forced and a fumble recovered. He was the first freshman to lead the team in tackles since Jason Shivers in 2001 and the first freshman to lead the team in tackles for loss and sacks since Junior Onyeali in 2010.

He led all FBS freshmen (true or redshirt) with 35 defensive "stops" this season – tied for 13thamong all Pac-12 defensive players.  He also led Pac-12 freshmen (true or redshirt) with 25 total QB pressures this season – second most among all freshmen in a Power Five conference. It was the 12th-most for any player in the Pac-12, regardless of year and second-most among all linebackers in the Pac-12.

Robertson played more snaps than any true freshman in the Pac-12 (749) and was one of just 7 true freshmen nationally to accomplish the feat (5thnationally). He was tied for 7thamong all linebackers in the Pac-12 with just 8 missed tackles this season.

Robertson becomes the fifth Sun Devil to earn a Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honor and the third to be named the Pac-12 Defensive Freshman of the Year. He joins Vontaze Burfict (2009) and Junior Onyeali (2010) as the third person to be distinguished as the Pac-12 Defensive Freshman of the Year.

Prior to 2009, only one Freshman of the Year honor was awarded by the conference regardless of it being an offensive or defensive player. Terrell Suggs earned the honor in 2000 and Zach Miller did so in 2004.
