Men's Volleyball Welcomes New Signees to Westwood

UCLA men's volleyball coach John Speraw and his staff announced the signing of seven student-athletes. Joining the Bruins for the 2020 season will be middle blocker Ethan Hill, outside hitter Cole Ketrzynski, outside hitter Alex Knight, opposite/ outside hitter Merrick McHenry, setter Marcus Partain, libero Cole Power and opposite Kyle Vom Steeg.
 
Ethan Hill is a 6-7 middle blocker from Saint Margaret's Episcopal School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. He is a member of the U.S. Youth National Team which took second place at the Youth NORCECA Championships. Hill was selected first-team all-league, league MVP and is a two-time first-team All-CIF selection. He plays for Balboa Bay Club and was twice named to the all-tournament team at Junior Nationals.
 
Cole Ketrzynski is a 6-7 outside hitter from Toronto, Canada who attends York Mills Collegiate Institute. He helped lead his school to three City championships and was medalist of the Ontario Federation of Secondary Schools. Ketrzynski plays club volleyball for Pakmen which captured the Canadian Youth Championship. He was also a member of the Canadian Youth National Team.
 
Alex Knight is a 6-6 outside hitter from Pacifica Christian High School in Santa Monica, Calif.  He is a member of the U.S. Youth National Team which won the silver medal at the 2018 NORCECA Championships. Knight was a first-team All-CIF selection in 2017 and a first-team all-league selection in both 2017 and 2018. He plays club volleyball for Pac6 and was named to the 2018 All-Tournament team at the Junior Nationals where his team won the bronze medal.
 
Merrick McHenry is a 6-7 outside hitter from Lawrence D. Bell High School in Hurst, Texas. He played club volleyball for Austin Juniors and has been a member of the U.S. Junior National Training Team. McHenry was an All-State performer in track and won the state championship in the long jump and triple jump his sophomore year.
 
Marcus Partain is a 6-3 setter from Palisades Charter High School in Los Angeles where he won two CIF City Section D1 Championships in 2017 and 2018. He was named CIF All-City in 2016 and 2017. Partain has played club volleyball for Pac6, Storm, Santa Monica along with SMBC and has twice medaled at Junior Nationals in 2014 and 2015. He has been a member of the USAV A1 HP Beach National Team (2015-18).
 
Cole Power is a 5-11 libero from Edison High School in Huntington Beach, Calif. where he was a four-year starter on the varsity. He was named to the 2018 Daily Pilot first-team Dream Team and first-team All-Sunset League. Power plays for Balboa Bay Volleyball Club and was named to the all-tournament team at Junior Nationals in 2016 and 2017. He was a member of the U.S. Youth National Training Team in 2018.
 
Kyle Vom Steeg is a 6-7 opposite from Aliso Niguel High School in Aliso Viejo, Calif. He is a four-year varsity starter and was named All-South Coast League first-team in 2018 and earned All-CIF honors in 2016 and 2018. Vom Steeg plays club volleyball for Balboa Bay and was a gold medal winner in the 2016 (15s) and 2017 (16s) Junior National Championships.  He was a member of the U.S. Youth National Training Team in 2018.
 
"Simply put, we signed a great class," said Coach Speraw. "This group is very experienced with all of them in their national team pipelines. They are hardworking, passionate about the sport, dedicated students and winners. We are all excited to share in their collegiate experience and can't wait to get them on campus."
 
The Bruins will open the 2019 men's volleyball season on January 2nd in the Pauley Pavilion against Princeton.
