Pac-12 gymnastics prepares for 2019 season

SAN FRANCISCO - Seven Pac-12 teams are ranked in WCGA Top 25 preseason poll.

• 26 NCAA All-Americans will return to Pac-12 teams.

• 30 freshmen will join Pac-12 rosters this season, STANFORD and CALIFORNIA with five newcomers and WASHINGTON and ARIZONA with six newcomers.

• UCLA’s Kyla Ross and Nina Dennis scored two perfect 10s in the annual Meet the Bruins.

• Cal captures highest national preseason rank in program history at No. 8.

• UCLA head coach Valorie Kondos-Field will seek her eighth NCAA title in her last season leading the Bruins.

TEAM NOTES

ARIZONA - Arizona welcomes six newcomers to its roster and opened the 2018-2019 season with the annual GymCat Showcase in the McKale Center on December 2, 2018 ... The Wildcats open the season on the road with a quad meet at Central Michigan that includes No. 22 Illinois.

ARIZONA STATE - No. 20 Arizona State returns seven top beam performers, all scoring above 9.800 on one or more occasions.  Seniors Justine Callis and Katelyn Lentz both earned 9.900s last season on the beam against their rival, Arizona.  Returner Cairo Leonard-Baker scored a 9.900 or better in eight meets leading the Sun Devils to a 49.185 on floor, their highest Regional Qualifying Score in 2018.

CALIFORNIA - The 2019 California Golden Bears Roster features three solid returners, 2016 Olympian Toni-Ann Williams, Nina Schank, and Kyana George ... Cal also welcomes five Junior Olympic national champions to its roster, helping the Golden Bears reach their best preseason rank in program history at No. 8 ...The Bears will open their season at No. 4 LSU on Jan. 4, the first time the Bears have traveled to the SEC since 2014.

OREGON STATE - The Beavers will return 22 out of 24 routines from their 2018 lineup along with the addition of four freshmen -- Leah Bivrell, Madi Dagen, Alex McClung and Kristina Peterson -- helping Oregon State begin this season ranked No. 17 in the nation in the WCGA Preseason Poll ... Oregon State will open the season on Sun., Jan. 13 at the Illinois tri meet that includes Top 25 teams Kentucky and Illinois.

STANFORD - 2018 Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year and 19-time All-American, Elizabeth Price graduated last year leaving the Cardinal’s 17-member roster with 13 underclassmen including 5 freshmen ... The Cardinal open the season at the NorCal Classic in Sacramento on Sun., Jan. 6.

UCLA - The 2018 national champions were selected as the preseason favorite to defend their NCAA title. The Pac-12 coaches agreed, tabbing the Bruins to capture the 2019 Pac-12 title as well ... Five All-Americans return, including 2018 NCAA floor champion, Katelyn Ohashi, 2012 Olympic gold medalist and 2017 NCAA bars and beam champion, Kyla Ross, and 2016 gold and silver medalist Madison Kocian ...Head coach Valorie Kondos Field will seek her eighth national title in her 29th and final season with the Bruins.

UTAH - The Utes have finished in the Super Six for the last two NCAA championships and were picked No. 5 in this season’s national preseason poll ... MyKayla Skinner, a two-time NCAA champion, is one of five returning All-Americans ... Utah gymnastics led all collegiate women’s sports in attendance for the eigth time last year, averaging 15,139 fans per meet.

WASHINGTON - The Huskies finished the 2018 season at No. 9 and look to make their third-straight NCAA appearence in 2019 ... The GymDawgs welcome six newcomers to their roster adding to last year’s standouts, NCAA Regional floor champions Kristyn Hoffa and Maya Washington ... The Huskies won’t open the season until they travel to No. 11 Nebraska on Sat., Jan. 12.
