Jackmon Becomes First Duck Drafted into the NWSL

01/10/19 | Women's Soccer

CHICAGO — "Go Ducks" became "Go Dash" for Oregon defender Jazmin Jackmon, who on Thursday became the first Duck ever selected in the National Women's Soccer League College Draft.

The senior from Pasadena, Calif., was the third pick of the third round (21st overall) by the Houston Dash.

"This is so exciting so now I can finally breathe," said Jackmon, after taking the stage at the Skyline Ballroom. "I've been dreaming about this moment for a very long time. It's what I've been working for since I was five."

Jackmon will join a Houston team that was 9-10-5 in 2018.

"I'm very excited to go to Houston and be a part of something new," she said. "I'm excited to use my left foot and be versatile at the left back or left center position."

Jackmon started all 19 matches at outside back during her 2018 senior season at Oregon. She scored her first goal as a Duck Oct. 18 at UCLA. She also had two assists on the season, including the game-winner in the Ducks' 2-0 victory over Idaho on Sept. 1.

In her two-year career at Oregon, Jackmon played in 38 games and started 36, all at outside defensive back.

"I'd like to thank my UO family for welcoming me and pushing me to be the best player I could be on and off the field," she said.

Before transferring to Oregon for her junior season, Jackmon helped Santa Clara advance to the Elite Eight of the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

Jackmon was one of eight Pac-12 players taken in the 36-pick NWSL Draft on Thursday, including No. 1 overall pick Tierna Davidson of Stanford. Five the first seven selections came the "Conference of Champions."

USC defender Ally Prisock will be a future teammate of Jackmon after being selected by the Dash with the third pick in the second round.
