Hundley Inks Homegrown Deal With Colorado

January 17, 2019 | Men's Soccer

UCLA midfielder Matt Hundley has inked a Homegrown contract with the Colorado Rapids of the MLS, becoming the 10th academy player in club history to sign a first team contract.

A native of Little, Colo., Hundley had a standout freshman season at UCLA in 2018, leading or co-leading the team in goals (five), assists (seven), points (17), shots (46), and shots on goal (24), culminating in All-Pac-12 Second Team honors. He ended the year at No. 24 on TopDrawerSoccer's Freshman Player Rankings.

Hundley is now one of 14 former Bruin players under contract with an MLS club and one of 23 in the professional ranks worldwide.

Prior to attending UCLA, Hundley came up through the Rapids U-19 team, earning a No. 18 ranking in the IMG Academy Top-150. A member of the U.S. U-17 Residency Program, he has risen as high as the U-19 level in the US National Team program.

He joins Erik Holt (homegrown contract with Real Salt Lake), Frankie Amaya (No. 1 overall pick in 2019 MLS SuperDraft by Cincinnati FC), and Anderson Asiedu (No. 24 overall pick in 2019 MLS SuperDraft by Atlanta United FC) as members of the 2018 squad to make the leap to professional soccer.
