All eight Pac-12 Gymnastics teams ranked in WCGA top 25
SAN FRANCISCO - Pac-12 Gymnastics has all eight of its teams ranked in the WCGA Top 25 for the first time this season.
- #2 UCLA and #4 UTAH both look to continue their run of scoring 197+ in three consecutive meets, marking the longest streak in history of 197+ scores for both institutions.
- Kyla Bryant of #21 STANFORD and Kyla Ross of #2 UCLA both aim for their fourth consecutive all-around title this week. Only one gymnast will be able to keep the winning streak alive as both teams will face off this Sunday at Maples Pavilion.
- #12 WASHINGTON will return to Seattle for its first home meet of the season against #20 OREGON STATE after a solid showing at #24 Arizona with Evanni Roberson, Madison Copiak, Geneva Thompson, and Malory Rose all securing scores of 9.900 or higher.
PAC-12 TEAM NOTES
ARIZONA - No. 24 Arizona set a new season high team score of 195.650 on Friday, but No. 12 Washington ended up winning the meet with a final score of 196.525 ... Junior Christina Berg earned two 9.900’s on the uneven bars and the floor exercise ... Maddi Leydin also had a spectacular showing, earning season high scores on the uneven bars, balance beam, and floor earning a 39.150 to claim first in the all-around.
ARIZONA STATE - Cairo Leonard-Baker had a 39.400 in the all-around, scoring the highest in any event for the Gym Devils with a 9.975 on bars, a new career high for the sophomore ... Justine Callis earned Pac-12 Specialist of the Week honors by winning the individual beam title after scoring a 9.925, another Gym Devil career best ... No. 16 ASU returns home this Saturday to host No. 4 Utah in the Cystic Fibrosis Awareness meet and alumni night.
CALIFORNIA - The Bears took home five event titles, led by Toni-Ann Williams’ vault (9.875) and beam (9.900) wins. The Olympian shared the vault crown with Kyana George who also scored a 9.875 ... Nina Schank, a 2018 All-Pac-12 uneven bars selection, picked up her first title of the event this season ... Freshman Milan Clausi earned the second title of her career with a meet-high of 9.925 on the floor ... California will continue Pac-12 play by wrapping up the week against the Wildcats in Tucson, Arizona.
OREGON STATE - Maela Lazaro placed first on the balance beam with a score of 9.850 in No. 20 Oregon State’s first Pac-12 match-up against No. 4 Utah. Savanna Force also won an individual title scoring a 9.925 on Floor Exercise ... The Beavers face another tough Pac-12 opponent this week looking for their first conference win against No. 12 Washington.
STANFORD - Kyla Bryant looks for her fourth consecutive all-around title this week as the Cardinal faces No. 2 UCLA at home Sunday ... In ‘The Big Meet’ versus cross-town rival No. 12 California, No. 24 Stanford topped 195.000 for the first time in 2019 and won the floor exercise (49.175) and vault (49.150) but ultimately fell to the Golden Bears ... Sophomore Rachael Flam shined in ‘The Big Meet’ tying for first on vault (9.875) and placing second on beam (9.875) and all-around (39.150).
UCLA - In front of 10,270 fans on Monday afternoon, the Bruins set a new standard by scoring their third 197+ score out of three meets so far this season ... Madison Kocian scored a perfect 10 on the uneven bars ... Kyla Ross will look to win the all-around for the fourth consecutive meet when they travel to Palo Alto to face the Cardinal at Maples Pavilion.
UTAH - The No. 4 Utah gymnastics team topped 197.000 for the third week in a row, beating No. 20 Oregon State 197.150-195.500 in Gill Coliseum ... Utah, which improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Pac-12, has started the season with three scores of 197 or higher for the first time in program history ... MyKayla Skinner stayed unbeaten on vault (9.975), bars (9.925), and the all-around (39.625) earning her Pac-12 Gymnasts of the Week honors for the second time this season.
WASHINGTON - No. 12 Washington went over a team score of 49.000 on two different events, edging No. 24 Arizona for the Huskies’ first Pac-12 win of the season ... The Gym Dawgs had four different individual scores of 9.900 or higher, led by Evanni Roberson’s score of 9.950 on beam, followed by two 9.900s by Madison Copiak on bars and beam, and another 9.900 score from Malory Rose on beam ... The Huskies return to Seattle for their first home meet of the 2019 season, hosting the Beavers in the Purple Strong meet.
