Small Signs to Complete Volleyball Recruiting Class

February 04, 2019 | Women's Volleyball

CORVALLIS, Ore. – For the fourth time in the last month, head coach Mark Barnard strengthened the Oregon State volleyball program, this time with the addition of freshman middle blocker Amya Small. Barnard announced the official signing on Monday.

A native of Riverside, Calif., Small will join the Beavers' program this summer to prepare for her freshman campaign.

"Amya is a dynamic athlete that we feel can compete immediately for a starting position," Barnard said. "She is a dynamic attacker from behind the setter and is an aggressive middle blocker. What she lacks in height, for the middle position, she more than makes up for with her speed and jumping abilities."

Small, who stands 5-feet, 11-inches tall, began her volleyball career while a sophomore at Upland High School. Though she missed her senior season at Upland due to injury, she led the squad in kills as a junior. In addition, she played two years of club for Forza 1 North earning all-tournament team honors at the 2018 Junior National Championships.

A fantastic athlete, Small has more experience on the track specializing in jumps and sprints.
