First top ten Pac-12 gymnastics match-up this weekend

SAN FRANCISCO - All eight Pac-12 gymnastics teams are ranked in the WCGA Top 25 for the fourth time this season.

  • One Pac-12 winning streak will be broken as undefeated #2 UCLA and #4 UTAH face off in a Top 10 Pac-12 showdown this week at the Huntsman Center.
  • #2 UCLA broke 198.000+ for the first time this year.
  • The Sun Devils will host their first Beauty and the Beast meet on Friday where the #20 ARIZONA STATE gymnastics team will compete alongside the ASU wrestling team at Wells Fargo Arena.
  • Bruin stars Kyla Ross and Katelyn Ohashi scored perfect 10s for the second consecutive meet, earning a 10 on vault and floor exercise, respectively.
  • WCGA rankings move to Team RQS this week, averaging only the top six scores of the season from each team.

PAC-12 TEAM NOTES

ARIZONA - No. 25 Arizona earned two season-high team scores on the uneven bars (49.100) and the floor (49.225) against No. 3 UCLA, with Christina Berg earning career- high scores on the uneven bars with a 9.925 and the floor exercise with a 9.900 ... Maddi Leydin also scored a career-high 9.900 on the floor ... The GymCats will head to Stanford next Sunday for their second straight road meet.

ARIZONA STATE - With a season-best vault rotation (49.075) that saw two career highs by Morgan Wilson (9.900) and Jessica Ginn (9.850), No. 19 Arizona State scored a 195.650 to take third place at the Perfect 10 Challenge on Friday night, beating George Washington, while falling short to No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 18 Washington ... The Gym Devils are back home on Friday to host No. 12 Oregon State in this season’s first Beauty and the Beast meet as Arizona State Gymnastics will compete along side Arizona State Wrestling at the same time in Wells Fargo Arena.

CALIFORNIA - The No. 14 California women’s gymnastics team added another strong road score to its resume in a 196.150 loss at No. 12 Oregon State which slightly edged the Golden Bears by scoring an overall 196.950 ... Kyana George logged a season-best 39.275 all-around score as one of four Bears to secure a win ... Senior Toni-Ann WIlliams collected a vault title scoring 9.875 and Emi Watterson won bars with a 9.875 ... Chelsea Shu earned first place on beam with a 9.90 ... The Bears’ display of strength extended beyond the gym floor, where they fought through an emotional beam rotation after team captain Williams suffered an injury at the end of the floor rotation ... The Golden Bears will host No. 18 Washington on Saturday to be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.

OREGON STATE - No. 12 Oregon State continued its roll Sunday afternoon topping No. 14 California, 196.950-196.150, in the 14th annual DAM Cancer meet.  The Beavers hit 24-for-24 routines versus the Bears for the first time this season en route to the Beavers’ victory ... Kaitlyn Yanish closed the meet with a 9.950 on floor exercise, marking her fourth straight meet in which she has scored 9.90 or better ... The Beavers hit the road, returning to the desert to face No. 20 Arizona State on Friday in Tempe.

STANFORD - On Senior Day, Stanford seniors Hailee Hoffman, Nicole Hoffman, and Taryn Fitzgerald turned in memorable performances in their final home meet at Maples Pavililon ... Hailee Hoffman earned a career high 9.875 on floor while Nicole Hoffman did the same on beam (9.825) and Fitzgerald added a season best on vault (9.800) ... It wasn’t enough to scare No. 4 Utah, which claimed the dual meet against the No. 23 Cardinal, 197.125-195.800 ... Stanford saved its best for last, besting the Red Rocks in floor exercise with a season high 49.325 with Cardinal program legends Elizabeth Price and Carly Janiga in attendance.

UCLA - No. 2 UCLA broke 198 for the first time this season, defeating No. 25 Arizona, 198.025-194.975, in front of 10,323 fans in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom ... Bruin stars Kyla Ross and Katelyn Ohashi scored perfect 10s for the second consecutive meet, earning a 10 on vault and floor exercise, respectively ... Ross recorded another all-around career-high, posting the fourth-highest all-around total in school history, 39.850 ... The Bruins (9-0) will face No. 4 Utah in Salt Lake City on Saturday.

UTAH - The No. 4 Utes made school history with their 197.125-195.800 win over No. 23 Stanford, topping the 197.000 mark for the eighth-consecutive meet ...  MyKayla Skinner won all three of the events in which she competed: vault (9.975), bars (9.95), and beam (9.90) ... MaKenna Merrell-Giles picked up her third all-around title of the season, scoring a 39.500, while Kari Lee finished second in the all-around with a 39.325 ... The Utes now turn their sights to the first top ten Pac-12 match-up of the season as they face defending champion No. 2 UCLA.

WASHINGTON - The No. 18 Washington Huskies put up their secord-highest score of the year at their first quad meet, tallying a 196.250 in front of over ten thousand fans tallying a 196.250 at the Perfect 10 Challenge ... Washington set a new season high on vault with a score of 49.050 as a team, with all five counting scores going 9.800 or above ... Washington will return to Pac-12 competition this week as it heads to the Bay Area to take on No. 14 California on Saturday.
