4X400 Team Notches School Record at MPSF Championships

February 23, 2019 | Women's Track & Field

SEATTLE – It was another record-setting day for the Oregon State track and field team at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on the final day of competition inside of Dempsey Indoor Center in Seattle.

The Beavers finished in 15th place with a total of 11 team points. One of Pac-12's own in USC took the crown with 120 team points.

The 4x400-meter relay team set a school record for Oregon State for the second consecutive day. Comprised of Lauren Miller, Tarisa Olinski, Saskia McNairy and Mari Friedman, the squad won their heat by nearly three seconds crossing the finish line in 3-minutes, 49.88-seconds.

They edged the previous record holders by one-tenth of a second, a record that was set in 2015.

The shot put was the only throwing event for the Beavers entering four student-athletes: Keely McLaughlin, Jessica Molina, Sydney Guthrie-Baker and Taylor Crockem. Of the group, three made improvements to their already all-time leaderboard ranks.

McLaughlin's throw of 48-feet, 4.5-inches improves her already No. 2 spot on the charts. Molina and Guthrie-Baker followed suite improving their No. 3 and No. 4 rankings with throws of 46-feet, 6.25-inches and 46-feet, 2.5-inches, respectively.

Both entrants into the 800 meters had impacts on the OSU all-time charts, Rebecca Ledsham and Friedman. Finishing in 20th place, Ledsham's time of 2-minutes, 10.62-seconds is an improvement to her previous No. 2 spot of 2-minutes, 12.05-seconds.

Meanwhile, Friedman cracks the top 10 for the first time in her career. She finished in 25th place in a time of 2-minutes, 11.45-seconds.

In the 800 meters, Brigette Takeuchi was the highest finisher for the Beavers coming in 20th place in 9-minutes, 34.14-seconds. Reed, who would later go on and be a part of the record-setting 4x400 team, finished closely behind with a time of 9-minutes, 34.41-seconds in 21st place.
