Women's Tennis Finishes off Midwest Road Trip with Win Against Minnesota

MADISON, Wisc. –The University of Utah women's tennis team finished off their Midwest road trip with a win earlier today against the University of Minnesota. The Utes were able to hold off the Gophers in a competitive match with a final score of 4-3, moving the Utes to an overall record of 6-2 on the season.

"Another great effort against a very good Big 10 squad. Breezy and Madi were able to set the tone in singles, and there was a great fight back by Whitney," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "This weekend will serve us well as we move into the 2nd half of the season."

The Utes were able to take an early advantage by earning the doubles point over Minnesota. On court No. 3, Emily Dush and Lindsay Hung started things off by defeating River Hart and Brita Mancera with a final score of 6-3. Whitney Hekking and Leah Heimuli then sealed the point with a win over Trina Kreinis and Tiffany Huber at the No. 2 spot, coming away with a 6-3 victory.

In singles, Chisholm kept things rolling with a win at the No. 1 position, as she was able to beat out Trina Kreinis with a score of 6-2, 6-2. Tattini followed with a win of her own shortly after, knocking off Tiffany Huber on the No. 2 court, 7-5, 6-1, to give the Utes the 3-2 lead. Then, with the score tied up 3-3, Hekking pulled off a clutch victory at the No. 5 spot after dropping the first set, to come back and win 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, giving Utah the 4-3 win over Minnesota.

The University of Utah women's tennis team will be back in action for a home match at the Eccles Tennis Center on Tuesday, March 5th, as they will be tacking on Western Michigan at 6 p.m. MT.

This match against Western Michigan will be followed by two other home matches at the Eccles Tennis Center, as the Utes will open up Pac-12 play against Washington State and Washington.
