Utes Send Seven to NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships

Six swimmers and one diver will compete for Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah will send seven competitors to the 2018 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, March 27-30 at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin.

Austin Phillips will represent the Utes for the third time and compete in a pair of individual events, the 50 and 100 free. Liam O'Haimhirgin will make his second trip and compete in three individual events, the 50, 100 and 200 free.

Rodolfo Moreira and Daniel McArthur are making return trips for the Utes while it will be the first ventures for Andrew Britton, Clay Stoddard and Tony Chen. Chen is the lone diver and will be involved in the 1-meter and 3-meter events. The Utes will also be involved in three relays, the 200 free, 400 free and 200 medley.

Phillips recently broke his own school record in the 200 free at the 2019 Pac-12 Championships, then teamed with O'Haimhirgin, Stoddard and Moreira to set a new mark in the 200 free relay. Three of those four Utes also set a new school record 400 free relay.

The Utes have one swimmer at the upcoming NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, giving the program eight student-athletes in action. This is the largest contingent for Utah since the 2013-14 season. Utah set 10 school records this fall across both men's and women's teams.

In order to qualify for the men's meet, you must be ranked among the top 30 nationally in your event. Chen needed to be among the top 36 divers nationally and Anderson had to be among the top 38 women's swimmers

The complete lists of all swimmers (athletes by institution, official psych sheet, relays and alternates) competing in the championships is available at https://www.usaswimming.org/Home/times/ncaa-information  Selected divers will be added to that website, along with www.ncaa.org, Monday, March 18.

ESPN3.com will live stream finals sessions on Wednesday through Saturday.  Preliminary sessions on Thursday through Saturday will be streamed live on www.texassports.com. Additionally, ESPNU will air a two-hour show at 7 p.m. Eastern time, Monday, April 8.
