Day One Ends for Women's Golf in California

Senior Madison Odiorne finished the day in the top-10 individually.

FAIRFAX, Calif. - Playing for the second time in as many weeks, Washington State women's golf ended the opening day of the Juli Inkster Invitational at Meadow Club in eighth place overall after playing 36 holes Monday. The Cougars ended the day at 17-over par after posting a combined score of 593. WSU and the rest of the field trail behind Sacramento State which posted a one-under, 575, as the lone team in the tournament to hit the red in the first day of play.

Leading the way for the Cougars in the opening day of play was Madison Odiorne as the senior put her name into the top-10 on the leaderboard with a two-round total of 143 (-1).  After posting an even-par 72 in the morning round, Odiorne one-upped her performance in the afternoon by shooting a 71. The fourth-year Cougar was consistent throughout her final round of the day, knocking in 15 pars to go with a pair of birdies early in her round. Odiorne's only blemish of the afternoon came after making the turn back on to the front-nine when a bogey on the par-5 first took one stroke back on her otherwise flawless round.

Behind Odiorne, freshman Darcy Habgood ended the day in a tie for 27th at five-over. The freshman completed her two rounds of action with a 74 and a 75 while posting five birdies over the two rounds. Redshirt-sophomore Emily Baumgart and junior Elodie Bridenne, who played unattached as an individual, tied for the team-high with six birdies a piece. Baumgart's 150 put her into a tie for 36th while Bridenne tied for 27th alongside of Habgood.

Individually, Rutgers' Harriet Allsebrook leads the field at seven-under par, three strokes better than second place.
