March 20, 2019 | Men's Basketball

LOS ANGELES – Incoming UCLA men's basketball player Jaime Jaquez has been named as one of several John R. Wooden High School Player of the Year Award recipients, as announced Tuesday by the Los Angeles Athletic Club.

Jaquez, a 6-foot-7 guard/forward from nearby Camarillo, Calif., secured the annual Player of the Year Award within CIF Southern Section Division II, along with Mayfair High School's Josh Christopher.

At the conclusion of each high school basketball season, the Los Angeles Athletic Club will announce multiple John R. Wooden High School Player of the Year Awards for various levels of the CIF Los Angeles City Section and Southern Section.

Jaquez concluded his senior season at Camarillo High School having led his team to a 25-4 overall record before being named the Ventura County Star's boys basketball player of the year. He averaged 31.7 points and 11.7 rebounds per game, totaling 919 points for the Scorpions. His single-season point total (919) ranks second all-time in Ventura County behind former Simi Valley High School standout and UCLA Hall of Famer Don MacLean (1008 points).

Jaquez led Camarillo High to the Coastal Canyon League's title in 2019, as well as a top seeding in the CIF Southern Section Division 2AA playoffs. He concluded his senior season having made 62 attempts from 3-point range. Jaquez is spending his spring semester playing on Camarillo's varsity baseball team.

Jaquez and high school senior Jake Kyman of Santa Margarita Catholic High School will enroll as freshmen at UCLA in 2019-20. Kyman, a 6-foot-7 guard from Aliso Viejo, Calif., secured All-CIF Southern Section Division I acclaim after having led his high school team to the CIF Southern Section Division I title in February.
