SEATTLE – Awards for the Washington men's basketball team continue to roll in as senior Matisse Thybulle and sophomore Jaylen Nowell have been named to National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 20 team, the NABC announced Thursday.
 
Nowell is fresh off of winning just the third Pac-12 Player of the Year award in UW history after averaging 16.2 points per game on 50.0 percent shooting from the field, up from 45.1 percent a year ago. He led the Dawgs in scoring for the second-straight year and improved his statistical numbers in almost every category. His all-around game saw improvements as well as he dished out a career-best 106 assists and averaged a career-high 5.3 rebounds. The finalist for the Naismith Jerry Shooting Guard of the Year Award also earned All-Pac-12 First Team honors this season.
 
Thybulle, a semifinalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year, was also named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year on Monday and picked up All-Pac-12 First Team honors along with Pac-12 All-Defensive team recognition. Sporting News named him an honorable mention All-American as well.

Thybulle became just the second player in Pac-12 history to repeat as the annual Defensive Player of the Year joining Gary Payton II (2014-15, 15-16). He owns both the the Pac-12 single-season record with 117 steals this season (shared with Jason Kidd of Cal, 1992-93) and the Pac-12 career steals record with 322, passing Gary Peyton (1986-990). He currently leads the NCAA averaging 3.44 per game and his 322 career steals lead all active NCAA Division I players.
 
Not only did Thybulle record his second-straight 100-steal season but the 6-5 guard also notched a team-high 77 blocks which ranked second in the Pac-12 and were the most by a guard. He is the only 6-5 player ranked in the NCAA top 65 in blocks while being the only player in the country to be ranked in the top 20 in steals (3.44 – 1st) and blocks (2.26 – 20th). The historic marks continue for Thybulle as he is the only player in the last 20 seasons to record both 100 steals and 70 blocks in the same year and is also one of just three players in that span to average 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals in a season, joining Shane Battier - Duke (1999-2000, 2000-01) and Nerlens Noel - Kentucky (2012-13). Additionally, Thybulle has 180 blocks on his career, which is six shy of the UW record set by Christian Welp (1984-87).
