Duck Invitational up Next for Washington State

The Washington State men’s golf team heads back to Oregon for the Duck Invitational.

THIS WEEK – The Washington State men's golf team will head back to the Beaver State for the Duck Invitational Monday through Tuesday, March 25-26 at the Emerald Valley Golf Course at Eugene, Ore.

THE COURSE – Emerald Valley Golf Club is a 7,165-yard course that will play at a par 72...rounds one and two will be played on the first day, with the third round played on the second day...all rounds will have a shotgun start...first tee is at 8:15 a.m.

THE FIELD – Fifteen schools will be joining WSU on the green; tournament-host No. 24 Oregon, No. 29 Oregon State, No. 33 San Jose State, No. 46 San Diego State, Boise State, Denver, Hawai'I, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Nevada, Oral Roberts, Pacific, San Francisco, Seattle and Wyoming.

LAST TIME ON THE GREEN – Last time the Cougars took the green, they finished in a tie for 10th in the National Invitational Tournament, hosted by Arizona at the Omni Tucson National Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz….the team had a three-round score of 867 (+3) with one round under par....juniors Nicklaus Chiam, Daniel Kolar and senior AJ Armstrong all tied for 41st, all finishing the tournament on par with scores of 216…senior Grant Cole followed five strokes behind to tie for 59th with a score of 221 (+5)…junior Scott Redelsperger finished just three strokes behind him with a score of 224 (+8), placing him in a tie for 66th.

LAST TIME AT THE DUCK INVITATIONAL – The last time the Cougars participated in the Duck Invitational was in 2017...the team took sixth with a three-round score of 878 (+26)...then-junior Zach Anderson (+1, 214) lead the Cougars, tying for 10th...then-senior Nick Mandell tied for 29th with a score of 221 (+8)...then-junior Derek Bayley took sole possession of 42nd after carding a 223 (+10)...then-sophomores Grant Cole (+12, 225)
and AJ Armstrong (+16, 229) tied for 48th and 66th respectively...then-freshman Nicklaus Chiam also tied for 66th with a three-round score of 229 (+16).

THE LINEUP – Representing the Cougars in Eugene will be juniors Nicklaus Chiam and Daniel Kolar, seniors AJ Armstrong and Grant Cole and junior Scott Redelsperger.

COACHES – Head coach Dustin White continues to lead the Cougars in his third year as a head coach at WSU…White returned to the Palouse in 2016 to take the head coaching job, after spending time playing golf professionally, even qualifying and participating in the 2006 U.S. Open…White golfed for the Cougars from 1999-2003, and is one of the most decorated golfers in WSU history, earning three All-Pac-10 selections, including a first team selection in 2002…White even holds a school record for the most top-10 finishes (8), which includes a first place finish and national player of the week honors…assisting White with the team is first-years assistant coach Kevin Tucker…Tucker golfed for the Cougars from 2006-10, becoming just the second Cougar to the NCAA Regional Championship in his junior year, returning the following year…he returned to Washington State in 2018 after spending time travelling the country to play in professional golf tours.
