No. 20 Trojans Top Bears, 19-7

The Bears Fell To Their Third Straight Ranked Opponent

LOS ANGELES - Kirsten Swanson and Caroline Corzel each recorded hat tricks, but the California women's lacrosse team couldn't stop No. 20 USC from scoring at will Saturday afternoon from McAllister Field. The Trojans defeated the Golden Bears, 19-7. Cal fell to 4-7, 1-3 on the year.

Swanson scored all three of her goals in the first half, while Corzel netted two in the first and one in the second half to complete her trifecta. Sophia Cerino notched Cal's seventh goal of the day in the final minutes of the contest. Marisa Kuberra chipped in with two assists while Susie Ropp added one helper, as well.

Cal converted on four its seven free-position attempts, including Swanson successfully converting on all three of her attempts.

Things started promising for the Bears. The first half began as a back-and-forth contest. Swanson scored on back-to-back eight-meter attempts to give Cal it's only lead of the day, a 2-1 lead at the 23:34 mark. USC regained the lead before Corzel's first goal of the afternoon tied it at three at the 17:23 mark.

The Trojans took control of the game when they scored the next six consecutive goals to take a 9-3 lead with just over eight minutes remaining before halftime. Corzel and Swanson answered with back-to-back tallies to cut the USC lead to four, but that was as close as Cal would get from that point on.

After the teams went into the locker rooms for halftime with USC boasting a 13-5 lead, the Trojans scored five of the first six goals in the second half to maintain control of the game for good.

Lizabanks Campagna compiled three ground balls, three draw controls and caused two turnovers, all team bests.

The Bears remain on the road with a matchup against Arizona State on Monday, March 25, at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.
