BERKELEY – Punctuated by Aaron Mah's hit on his final high bar routine, California fought through a loaded field headlined by the reigning national champion Oklahoma and UIC, to make its case during a night that celebrated four seniors.

Collectively, the Golden Bears were impressive as the team recorded a season high 70.050 on the vault. That effort was supported by all five Bears scoring at least a 13.000, with freshman Darren Wong and junior Jonathan Wang co-leading with scores of 14.300, career bests for both.

Wong finished with three career performances to title in the all-around for the second consecutive meet with an overall 81.700. Mah finished second in the all-around with a 78.950.

Matching his collegiate best on the floor (14.550), Wong outscored three Sooners to finish as the runner-up. The Vancouver native also pulled in a career high on the parallel bars with a 13.700, a solid improvement from his previous mark of 13.500. His score was enough for sixth place.

The Bears finished with a 397.650 to finish ahead of UIC (370.300), but unfortunately were unable to outlast OU, which scored a 423.400.

"The team is nearing that end of regular season lull but we need to make sure we stay consistent through conference championships," said head coach JT Okada. "The take away from this meet is that we are right in the mix when it comes to our routines and difficulty. We have to be better on pommel horse and we have shown that we can be. Also high bar will need to come up a bit as we didn't have a great showing on that today. However I'm very happy for our seniors and all the work they've put in to get here."

An emotional tone underlined the evening as Cal said goodbye to seniors Mah, Harrison Plate, Mitchell Awisus and Roshan Toopal.

Cal also opened the evening with a moving moment to honor the UIC program, which is being terminated at the end of this season due to department budgetary issues.

Junior Asad Jooma, who transferred from UIC, shared kinds words with his former teammates and coaches, thanking them and commending them for their perseverance.

Cal closes its regular season next weekend against No. 1 Stanford with a 4:30 p.m. (PT) meet at Burnham Pavilion.
