Hunter Bishop Named Pac-12 Baseball Player of the Week

PHOENIX – For the second time this season, Sun Devil Baseball junior outfielder Hunter Bishop has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, as announced by the league office today.
 
Bishop was instrumental in leading ASU to a road series victory over Oregon in Eugene this weekend and a 3-1 record overall for the week. The Sun Devils are now 22-1 on the season and 5-1 in Pac-12 play and ranked No. 9 by both D1Baseball and the USA Today Coaches Poll. 
 
Bishop homered four times on the week, twice in a 15-9 midweek victory over Cal Baptist and twice against in a dominant 12-2 series opening victory over Oregon on Friday evening. The four home runs extended his nation-leading total to 14 – two more than any other player in the country and six more than any other player in the Pac-12. 
 
The junior slugged 1.250 for the week with the four homers and two doubles as well, batting a .375 average while reaching base at a .524 clip do to his team-high five walks on the week. Bishop account for a team-best seven RBIs and scored five runs as well.
 
Bishop is the national leader in slugging percentage at 1.034 but has shown his base-running prowess by also sitting second in the country and first in the Pac-12 with 36 runs scored on the season. He leads the Pac-12 and is fifth nationally in RBIs (36) and sits 12thin the country in OBP (.545).
 
With 38 hits this season, Bishop is tops in the Pac-12 and 14thin the country. His .427 batting average is second in the league and 16thnationally while he is first in the Pac-12 and second nationally in total bases (92).
 
For the Sun Devils, this is the second time this season (and career) that Hunter Bishop has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week. It is the third weekly honor of the season and the 151stall-time weekly conference honor from the Pac-12.
 
ASU returns to the diamond this weekend for a three-game series against in-state rival Arizona, beginning Friday, March 29 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at this link. All three games are scheduled to be broadcast live by the Pac-12 Network.
