Gymnasts secure 36th consecutive NCAA Regional bid

STANFORD, Calif. – For the 36th consecutive year, the Stanford women's gymnastics team was selected for postseason competition on Monday and will travel to Oregon for the NCAA Corvallis Regionals, April 4-6.
 
 The No. 25 Cardinal captured regional crowns in 1999, 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2016.
 
"We look forward to continuing our season and trending upward," said head coach Tabitha Yim.

Also participating in Corvallis are Florida, Denver, Boise State, host Oregon Sate, Washington, Southern Utah, Iowa and Arizona..
 
All eight Pac-12 teams advanced. 
 
In all, 36 teams earned regional bids and will compete at four sites. Each includes nine teams, three all-around competitors and four specialists. The top two teams and top all-around competitor not a member of an advancing team qualify for the NCAA Championships, April 19-20 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Additionally, the top event specialist in each event not on an advancing team will qualify in that event only.
 
The other regional sites are Baton Rouge, La., Ann Arbor, Mich., and Athens, Ga.
 
Stanford is coming off a seventh-place finish at the Pac-12 Championships on Saturday in Utah.
 
Performing in the first session, the Cardinal gained the lead entering the final event on beam but couldn't hold off Arizona State and Washington.
 
"It was perfect to come out of the Pac-12's the way we did," Yim said. "We gained a lot of confidence, but it also left us hungry and with a lot of fire."
