Malibu, Calif – No. 17 Stanford went 1-1 in back-to-back matches Sunday at Zuma Beach against CSUN and No. 5 Pepperdine.
The Cardinal (8-10) started out its day with a 4-1 win against the Matadors. Every pairing, except the No. 4, secured a point for Stanford after straight sets victories.
The script flipped in the second match of the afternoon, as Stanford fell 4-1 against No. 5 Pepperdine. The Cardinal had lost to the Waves, 3-2, earlier this season in Hawaii at the Outrigger Beach Classic.
Morgan Hentz and
Sunny Villapando, a new duo at the two, tallied Stanford's lone point of the match after battling back from a deficit in the second set to secure a convincing 15-9 victory in the third.
After a week in Southern California, Stanford travels back home to host its next matches against conference foes. The Pac-12 North Beach Volleyball Invitational will take place on Saturday, April 6
th and Sunday, April 7
th at the Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium. Stanford will face Washington at 11 a.m. and No. 2 USC at 5 p.m. on Saturday, and No. 1 UCLA at 1 p.m. and No. 12 California at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
