Men's Tennis Heads To Pacific Northwest

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah men's tennis program will stay on the road this week as they take on a pair of Pac-12 foes in Washington and No. 31 Oregon. The Utes start at Washington on Friday, March 29 at 6 p.m. MT followed by a Sunday afternoon match at Oregon at 12:30 p.m. MT.

Both matches this weekend will have live scoring available with live updates also available on Twitter (@UtahTennis) and Instagram (@UtahTennis). A recap and results will be available on UtahUtes.com following the completion of each match.

After taking a week away from action, the Utes are ready to get back to competition, entering the weekend 13-6 overall. The Utes currently have two players ranked in the top-120 in the ITA with Dan Little sitting at No. 42 nationally and eighth in the Pac-12.

Little currently holds an overall record of 19-5 and is 11-4 in dual match play. David Micevski also ranks No. 111 nationally in the top-20 in the Pac-12 with an overall record of 12-5 (11-3 in dual match play).

The Utes are coming off two matches in California, sweeping UC Irvine on March 13, but dropping their match against Cal Poly on March 16.

In singles play, both Little and Slava Shainyan were able to come away from the weekend undefeated. Little got started with a key win over Sasha Krasnov of UC Irvine, 6-3, 7-5 then finished the trip with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Josh Ortlip of Cal Poly.

Shainyan capped off Utah's 7-0 win over UC Irvine, winning 6-3, 6-3, 6-7. Against Cal Poly, he secured Utah's second point of the match on the No. 3 court with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win over Gary Vardanyan, but the Utes still fell 5-2 against the Broncos.

After Utah's trip to the Pacific Northwest, the Utes will return home for their final three home matches of the season, starting with San Francisco on Thursday, April 4. Utah will then host California on April 6 and Stanford on April 7 for Senior Day.
