Cardinal shows well in preliminary competition

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Stanford got off to a strong start Thursday on the first day of the Collegiate National Championships at the Palo Alto Aquatic Center.
 
Preliminary routines were completed in solo free, duet free and trio free.

In solo, sophomore Jacklyn Luu scored 82.9000 to finish second behind Nicole Dzurko of Ohio State (84.0667).
 
In duet, the Cardinal claimed second and third, as freshman Grace Alwan and sophomore Caitlin Klauer tallied 80.8667 and Luu and freshman Alexandra Suarez compiled 80.3667. Dzurko and Laila Huric of Ohio State led the way with 81.9000.
 
In trio, Stanford secured second and third again behind the Buckeyes. Junior Karen Li, Luu and Suarez combined for 81.3667, while Alwan, junior Natalie Fletcher and Klauer scored 80.3667. Ohio State set the pace with 81.9333.
 
On Friday, preliminary team and technical competition will be held.
 
Trio, duet, solo and team finals will be conducted on Saturday.
