Two School Records Topple On Day One
Rogers And Boos Break School Records On First Day Of Stanford Invitational
STANFORD, Calif. – California track & field took to Cobb Track & Angell Field on Stanford's campus with 13 top-five finishes and two school records on the first day of the Stanford Invitational.
Camryn Rogers reset her own school record in the hammer throw. After winning the U20 World Championship last year, Rogers returned to the event for the first time this year with a mark of 65.88m/216-2. Rogers surpassed the 65.00m mark four times during the competition, including on her third throw, which set the school record.
Annie Boos set a new school mark with a time of 10:14.83 in the 3000m steeplechase. Boos came into the season with the second-best mark in school history with a time of 10:17.77, but in her first competition of 2019, Boos broke the mark of 10:14.94 set by Rowena Tam at the 2011 NCAA Regional.
Paramveer Chohan claimed the win in the men's 400m hurdles as he raced around the track in 50.63. Chohan won the 400m hurdles for the second straight week, setting a personal best for the second straight competition.
In the men's steeplechase,
Takeshi Okada notched the 10th-fastest mark in school history with a time of 8:49.35. Returning to the track where he took third at the Pac-12 Championship last year, Okada was able to find a place on the all-time list just behind teammate
Kai Benedict. Benedict ran 8:52.38 as the duo finished sixth and seventh in their section.
Deshae Wise recorded the fourth-fastest 100m hurdle time in school history as she ran 13.59 in the finals. Wise reached the finals with the seventh-best qualifying time at 13.85, but bettered it in the final to take fourth. Wise's previous career best of 13.69 was fifth on the school's all-time list.
In the men's 110m hurdle final,
Misana Viltz took fifth place with a wind-aided time of 14.00. Viltz qualified for the final in 13.99.
Iffy Joyner took third place in the discus invitational as he threw 55.61m/182-5 on his second attempt.
Malik McMorris took ninth with a throw of 50.94m/167-1.
Maisie Stevens nearly cracked the school's all-time top 10 list as the freshman ran 11.80 in the 100m dash.
Zion Corrales Nelson is the current 10th-place mark at 11.77. Stevens took fourth place after qualifying with a time of 11.90.
Jackie Patterson finished in sixth place with a time of 11.93.
Chrissy Glasmann took fourth in the invitational section of the javelin with a throw of 48.36m/158-8. Glasmann improved her mark from the Hornet Invitational when she threw 157-4 in her debut appearance of the season.
Mina Anglero took third place in her section of the 1500m as she ran 4:25.60.
The Bears also had a number of distance runners compete at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic. Freshman
Jessica Nye took 11
th in the 1500m. Nye won the fourth section of the 1500m with a time of 4:33.23 as she set a new personal best.
Moises Medrano took second in his section of the 1500m with a time of 3:55.41.
Marea Zlatunich took fourth in her heat of the 5000m as she recorded a time of 16:48.51 to finish 18th.
Ben Harper crossed the line 15:03.00 in the men's race.
