COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USC women's volleyball senior middle blocker
Jasmine Gross (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) was named to the USA Volleyball Collegiate National Team's Anaheim roster on Monday, April 1.
Â
Gross is part of an elite roster of 28 current collegiate players who will train together in Anaheim in June. Last week, junior All-American outside hitter
Brooke Botkin (Houston, Texas/Pearland HS) was chosen to the CNT-Japan roster.
Â
The Anaheim squad will train June 23-29 at the American Sports Centers in Anaheim, Calif., the official host city for the U.S. Women's and Men's National Volleyball Teams. The program will hold a public Red-Blue scrimmage on June 28 in the vicinity of Anaheim (site and time to be announced later).
Â
The CNT-Anaheim coaching staff includes Dan Fisher (Pittsburgh), Travis Hudson (Western Kentucky), Kirsten Bernthal-Booth (Creighton), and Melissa Wolter (West Florida). Technical coordinators are Taylor Filzen (Dayton) and Jess Aschenbrenner (Denver). Rod Wilde will serve as the mentor coach, while Jeff Wanderer has been selected as the team manager.
Â
"CNT-Anaheim team is wonderful opportunity for these athletes," Fisher said. "For many of them it will be their first time representing the USA, getting a first look at international volleyball. Additionally, it will coincide with other national team training blocks in Anaheim giving both players and coaches a great chance to learn from the best. I am really looking forward to this training block and working again with Team USA."
Â
Athletes were selected through the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts held March 1-3 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Last month, USAV announced its CNT-World University Games and CNT-Japan Tour rosters. In all, 52 student-athletes will take part in the Collegiate National Team program, all which are considered second tryouts for the U.S. Women's National Teams under NCAA rules.
Â
Gross transferred to USC following two seasons at Pepperdine (2016-17) and started every match for the Women of Troy in 2018. She collected 241 kills (1.93 kps) and hit .310; and led the team in blocks (141 total blocks/1.13 bps).
Â
Under first-year head coach
Brent Crouch, USC finished with a 22-11 overall record and a second-place tie in the Pac-12 (13-7). The Trojans played one of the toughest schedules in the nation with 18 AVCA ranked opponents. USC made its 36th appearance in the NCAA tournament (28th consecutive) and advanced to the second round as the 11th seed before falling in an upset to San Diego. Botkin was named to the AVCA All-America second team and became the program's 42nd all-time All-American. Freshman setter
Raquel Lázaro was chosen as the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and received AVCA All-America honorable mention alongside outside hitter
Khalia Lanier.
