All eight Pac-12 gymnastics teams head to NCAA Regionals

SAN FRANCISCO - All eight Pac-12 Gymnastics teams were selected to advance to the 2019 National Collegiate Women’s Gymnastics Championships starting on Thursday, April 4.

  • Two Pac-12 Gymnastics teams claimed a top-8 seed at their respective regional: defending NCAA champion UCLA in Ann Arbor (No. 2) and Utah in Baton Rouge (No. 6).
  • No. 13 Oregon State will host the Corvallis Regional at Gill Coliseum.
  • UCLA Head Coach Valorie Kondos Field looks for her eighth and final NCAA Championship title leading the Bruins.
  • UCLA’s Kyla Ross, UCLA’s Katelyn Ohashi, and Utah’s MyKayla Skinner look to finish the season strong, all coming off the 2019 Pac-12 Championship scoring at least one perfect 10.

PAC-12 TEAM NOTES

ARIZONA - The GymCats will compete in the first round of the Corvallis Regional against Iowa on Thursday to start the 2019 NCAA Championships ... Arizona is led by Courtney Cowles and Maddi Leydin who helped Arizona reach its best meet event total of 49.125 on floor at the Pac-12 Championships by posting a pair of 9.850s.

ARIZONA STATE - No. 21 Arizona State entered its post-season with a bang after earning the top score in Session 1 of the Pac-12 Championships (196.400) ... Cairo Leonard-Baker made an outstanding performance scoring a 9.950 on bars and a 39.525 all-around score to give her All-Pac-12 All-Around first team honors ... Leonard-Baker and The Sun Devils will compete in the Baton Rouge Regional starting on April 5.

CALIFORNIA - No. 15 California’s underclassmen continue to stand out this season.  A pair of freshmen led the Golden Bears on vault at the Pac-12 Championships with Maya Bordas scoring a career-high 9.80 and Milan Clausi recording a 9.90. Clausi and Emi Watterson also earned selections to All-Pac-12 teams ... The Golden Bears will make their next appearance at the Athens Regional on April 5 as Cal claimed its seventh consecutive team postseason berth.

OREGON STATE - No. 15 Oregon State finished third in the Pac-12 Championship with a 196.600 ... Isis Lowery led the Beavers posting a career-high 9.95 on floor to earn her All-Pac-12 second team honors ... The Beavers hold the No. 13 seed as they host the Corvallis Regional at Gill Coliseum starting on Thursday.

STANFORD - No. 25 Stanford enters postseason competition for the 36th consecutive year and will travel to Oregon for the NCAA Corvallis Regional ... The Cardinal finished seventh at the Pac-12 Championship where sophomore, Kyla Bryant collected a career-best 39.525 in the all-around.

UCLA - No. 2 UCLA defended its title at the 2019 Pac-12 Championship with a season best 198.400 ... Seven-time Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week and 2019 Gymnast of the Year, Kyla Ross earned her tenth perfect 10 this season on uneven bars and eleventh perfect 10 on floor, making it eight consecutive meets in a row in which Ross scored at least one perfect 10 ... Six-time Pac-12 Specialist of the Week and 2019 Specialist of the Year, Katelyn Ohashi, scored her ninth perfect 10 on floor and eleventh perfect 10 overall in her career ... UCLA will look to defend its NCAA title as the No. 2 seed starting at the Ann Arbor Regional on Friday.

UTAH - The No. 6 Utah Utes will open NCAA Regional action on Friday in the Baton Rouge Regional second round ... Utah enters NCAA play with a 16-4 overall record and has won 31 regional titles (28 NCAA) and finished second the other 12 years ... MyKayla Skinner has become Utah’s all-time leader in All-America awards with 22 after earning her four 2019 regular season All-America awards ... The Utes scored over a 197.000 in every regular season meet for the first time in school history.

WASHINGTON - Washington took second in Session 1 of the Pac-12 Championships with three GymDawgs setting career-highs on floor (Amara Cunningham 9.900, Geneva Thompson 9.900, and Maya Washington 9.950) ...The GymDawgs will start NCAA postseason action at the Corvallis Regional on Friday.
