PHOENIX - The Bruins are tied for fifth after 36 holes at the ASU Thunderbird Collegiate, while seniors Cole Madey and Patrick Murphy are inside the Top 10 following Friday's play at the Papago Golf Course.

As a team, UCLA shot a 1-under 283 in the morning and an even-par 284 in the afternoon to sit at 1-under 567.

Madey is tied for fourth at 4-under 138. He shot a 1-under 70 in round one on five birdies (No. 1, 5, 6, 9 and 15) and four bogeys. In round two, Madey recorded a 3-under 68 on four birdies (No. 1, 9, 15 and 17) and one bogey.

Murphy is tied for 10th at 2-under 140. He posted a 1-over 72 in the morning on one birdie on the ninth and two bogeys. In the afternoon, Murphy notched a 3-under 68, making an eagle on the par-5 9th, birdies on No. 5, 13 and 14 and two bogeys.

Senior Jack Ireland and junior Hidetoshi Yoshihara are tied for 35th (+3, 145). Ireland shot an even-par 71 in round one on three birdies (No. 3, 9 and 18) and three bogeys, recording a 3-over 74 in round two on three birdies (No. 9, 11 and 15) and six bogeys.

Yoshihara tallied a 1-under 70 in the morning on four birdies (No. 5, 9, 10 and 15) and three bogeys. In round two, he shot a 4-over 75 on one birdie on the 10th, three bogeys and a double.

Sophomore Eddy Lai is tied for 50th (+5, 147), posting a 2-over 73 in the morning on two birdies (No. 8 and 13) and four bogeys and a 3-over 74 in the afternoon on two birdies (No. 9 and 17) and five bogeys. Freshman Sean Maruyama, playing as an individual, is tied for 74th (+12, 154). He shot a 1-over 72 in round one on three birdies (No. 9, 13 and 18) and four bogeys and an 11-over 82 in round two on six bogeys, a double and a triple.

The Bruins begin their final round on Saturday at 7:24 a.m., as Lai tees off first, followed by Ireland and Yoshihara at 7:36 a.m. and Madey and Murphy at 7:48 a.m. Maruyama starts on No. 10 at 8:54 a.m.
