UCLA Represented by Eight Players in NBA Playoffs

April 12, 2019 | Men's Basketball

UCLA has eight former players on rosters of NBA teams that have advanced to the upcoming NBA Playoffs, set to begin on Saturday, April 13.

Russell Westbrook leads this group of former UCLA players, as he will make his ninth career appearance in the postseason (all with the Oklahoma City Thunder).

Joining Westbrook, as former UCLA players who are on NBA teams in the postseason, are Jonah Bolden (Philadelphia 76ers), Darren Collison (Indiana Pacers), Aaron Holiday (Indiana), TJ Leaf (Indiana), Norman Powell (Toronto Raptors), Kevon Looney (Golden State Warriors) and Thomas Welsh (Denver Nuggets).

Westbrook and Oklahoma City will get their best-of-seven series started on Sunday against the No. 3-seed Portland Trail Blazers. Other series in the Western Conference that involve former UCLA standouts include the No. 1-seed Golden State Warriors (Looney) versus the No. 8-seed Los Angeles Clippers and the No. 2-seed Denver Nuggets (Welsh) against the No. 7-seed San Antonio Spurs.

Within the Eastern Conference, former UCLA players could be involved in three separate series. Norman Powell will be making his fourth consecutive postseason appearance, competing for Toronto. Seeded No. 2 in the East, the Raptors will take on the No. 7-seed Orlando Magic beginning on Saturday. In addition, the No. 3-seed Philadelphia 76ers (Bolden) will face the No. 6-seed Brooklyn Nets. Three former UCLA players could be in action for the No. 5-seed Indiana Pacers (Collison, Leaf and Holiday), as they take on the No. 4-seed Boston Celtics.

UCLA is tied for third (with Texas) among all colleges in the nation with eight former players who are on NBA teams in the 2019 postseason. In addition, the Pac-12 Conference ranks second among all college conferences with 36 players on these playoff teams.
