LOS ANGELES, CALIF. — The No. 11 USC men's tennis team got a new win streak underway in making it a victorious weekend on home turf. Today at Marks Stadium, the Trojans issued another shutout to a visiting Pac-12 foe — this time taking out No. 48 Oregon with a 4-0 decision. USC improves to 15-7 overall and to 5-1 in Pac-12 play with the home win.
Doubles play saw bang-bang finishes from courts two and three as the Trojans captured the opening point. At the No. 2 spot, the brothers Smith churned out a 6-3 win just before teammates
Daniel Cukierman and
Jack Jaede plugged a 6-1 win on the board from court three. That suspended action at the top slot, and USC was on through to singles with a 1-0 lead in its pocket.
In singles, freshman
Jake Sands hit the finish line first once again, drilling a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Evan Felcher over on court six. Minutes later, USC's #12
Brandon Holt whipped up a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Emmanuel Costs, and the Trojans were prepped to pounce on a clincher. Once senior
Tanner Smith had match point on the horizon the captain didn't let it out of his sight. Smith would wrap up the day's action with his 6-4, 6-4 win over Charles Roberts to make it 4-0 from court five, suspending action on court two, where
Daniel Cukierman was poised for victory, as well as tougher battles on courts three and four.
The Trojans remain on home turf next week, hosting Arizona at 3 p.m. on Friday (April 19) and ASU at 3 p.m. on Saturday (April 20) at Marks Stadium. Next Saturday's match will feature a ceremony to honor USC's five graduating Trojans —
