Seniors Rachel Gregory, Sydney Bosmans to Be Honored Before San Diego State Game

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Sun Devil Lacrosse team welcomes San Diego State to town for a midweek showdown on Wednesday, April 17 at 3 p.m. in Sun Devil Lacrosse/Soccer Stadium.

The program will honor its first two seniors in their young history in a pre-game ceremony taking place before the starting lineups are announced. Defenders Sydney Bosmans and Rachel Gregory have had a huge hand in helping establish the Arizona State Lacrosse program and will be recognized for their achievements. Their commitment and contributions over the last two seasons have been a big reason why Sun Devil Lacrosse has quickly reached heights rarely seen by new programs.

To this point of their two-year careers, the duo has started a combined 36 and appeared in 53 games. They have picked up 55 ground balls, caused 23 turnovers, and earned 39 draw controls as key pieces of the Sun Devil defensive unit. They have made an impact on and off the field, both earning a spot IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll. Gregory is on track to graduate in May with a degree in Sustainability, boasting a 3.75 GPA. Bosmans has secured her undergraduate degree and is currently on track to receive her Masters of Sports Law & Business from the Sandra Day O'Connor School of Law.

The Sun Devils are coming off a split of their two-game East Coast road trip, finishing on a high note with a 18-6 victory over Presbyterian on Sunday afternoon. Bouncing back from their loss on Friday against Liberty, a balanced Arizona State attack led the way to a comfortable win. The Sun Devils jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead and didn't look back, cruising to their first double-digit margin of victory of the season.

Eleven different Sun Devils scored at least one goal, including the first of the collegiate career for Erica Odell and Emma Carlson. Kerri Clayton led the way with four goals, recording her fifth hat trick of the season. Julia Burns caused the Presbyterian defense fits all afternoon, compiling six points (three goals and three assists). The 18-goal output by the offense matches a season high, while the Sun Devils earned a running clock with 12:31 left in the first half, preventing that total from getting even higher.

In the first game of the trip, Arizona State suffered a loss at the hands of Liberty. Six different Sun Devils scored a goal and the goalkeepers combined to make 15 saves, including 12 by Berkeley Bonneau, but the Flames managed to pull away late to secure the victory. A physical contest developed as the game featured 60 fouls and eight cards.

Arizona State would tally the final two goals of the first half, following that up by scoring the first goal of the second half pulling them as close as two goals. Despite a feisty and unrelenting comeback effort, the Sun Devils would come up short in their first game on the East Coast.

The Maroon and Gold now quickly turn their attention to their midweek matchup with San Diego State. The contest is set for Wednesday, April 17 at 3 p.m. The Aztecs are led by Head Coach Kylee White, who brings her team to Tempe with an 8-6 record in her eighth season at the helm of the program. San Diego State is currently in the midst of a five-game losing streak, most recently dropping a road contest at UC Davis. The Aztecs are 2-2 this season against Pac-12 competition, going head-to-head with every team in the conference outside of Colorado. The offensive attack is headed up by Harlowe Steele, who has a team-leading 37 goals and 47 points so far in 2019. Goalkeeper Katy Sharretts has started all 14 games in net for SDSU. The game will be broadcasted live through the ASU Digital Stream.

As is true for all home games, admission to Wednesday's game is free. Live stats for media and the public can be found here.
