PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – The Washington State women's golf team completed the second round of the Pac-12 Championship, posting a 13-over, 297 the second day, bringing their overall score to a 595(+27). The Cougars sit in seventh place ahead of No. 21 Oregon, No. 44 California, No. 35 Oregon State, and Colorado.
Leading the way for the team, freshman
Amy Chu carded a three-over, 74, in the second round while remaining in the top-10 in a tie for eighth overall. The rookie Cougar finds herself in good company, as the Australian native is the only golfer in the top-10 without a national ranking. Chu has put together four birdies and 27 pars; while averaging one-under on par-4s and even-par on par-5s.
While Chu paces the Cougars for the tournament thus far, junior
Marie Lund-Hansen paced WSU for round two as the third-year junior carded a two-over, 73 Tuesday afternoon. The Denmark, native went one-under on the course's par-5s while moving into a tie for 39th overall with No. 74 Katherine Zhu from California. Freshman
Darcy Habgood continued her strong showing for the Cougars in her first Pac-12 Championship, carding a four-over, 75, while leading the tournament with 29 pars and going one-under on the course's par-5s.
Redshirt-sophomore
Emily Baumgart improved on the second day of the tournament, moving up seven spots in the individual leaderboard. Baumgart put together four birdies on the day and went one-over on the course's par-5s.
Individually, Chu and the Cougars will try to catch No. 12 Albane Valenzuela from No. 4 Stanford. Valenzuela put together a two-round score of 135(-7), leading the tournament by four strokes. On the team leaderboard the field trails behind No. 1 USC which posted an even-par, 568, through two rounds of play.
