Utah Softball Set for Another Top 5 Showdown

ON DECK
Utah hosts No. 3 Washington having lost the last three regular-season series to the Huskies.
 
Six of the eight times these teams have met since the Utes joined the Pac-12, UW has been ranked in the top 10 nationally. Utah currently ranks 21st in the nation in terms of schedule strength.
 
The Utes have a number of events scheduled, starting with Thursday night's Red Out. Friday is All-American Day with U.S. National Team speed skater and Utah student Maame Biney throwing out the first pitch. The weekend closes with Easter Egg Hunts for children five and younger and another for ones ages six and older.
 
All weekend, Utah Softball will be working in coordination with the Utah Food Bank to gather non-perishable items for those less fortunate.
 
BARRERA BREAKING OUT FOR UTES
Alyssa Barrera leads the Pac-12 and sits fifth nationally with six triples, three of which came against Cal. She has started all 143 games of her Utah career.
 
Barrera ranks ninth in the Pac-12 with a .397 batting average, 10th with 46 hits and 18th in slugging at .612. In conference play, she ranks seventh in batting average (.448), fourth in slugging (.468) and sixth in on-base percentage (.528).
 
Over the last 21 games, Barrera is hitting .500 with a .786 slugging percentage and ranks second on the team in runs batted in.
 
Barrera, named to the 2018 USA Softball Player of the Year "Watch List", also made the short list of finalists for the 2017 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year award.
 
Last season, she hit .322 in 2018, the second-best average on the team. As a freshman, she ranked sixth in the Pac-12 and led the Utes with 46 runs scored.
 
She was also named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team and All-Freshman Team

BONSTROM BLOWING UP
After her first three Pac-12 series, freshman Ellessa Bonstrom has shown she will be a force to be reckoned with in years to come.
 
In Pac-12 play, she is eighth with an .867 slugging percentage. She also ranks ninth in on-base percentage (.500), fifth with eight walks and seventh in home runs (4).
 
DICKMAN HAS BEEN DYNAMITE
Over the last 25 games, Ally Dickman is batting .372 with a team-high six home runs. She is also slugging .679 and for the season ranks among the top 20 in the Pac-12 (.600).
 
The senior owns the longest hitting streak (10 games) and on-base streak (12 games) for the Utes this season and is currently the toughest at bat in the Pac-12 with just five strikeouts in 100 at bats.
 
HILBURN HITTING HER STRIDE
Hailey Hilburn was selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Pacific Region Team in 2018.
 
In Pac-12 play this season, she is third with five doubles and 11th with a .781 slugging percentage. Over the last two weeks, she is hitting .368 with three homers and two doubles for a .947 slugging percentage. She has also earned Utah's only win in the circle.
 
Last year, she had her best offensive season for Utah, starting 49 games and hitting .311. She finished third on the team in doubles, home runs, runs batted in, slugging percentage and walks.
In the circle, she made a career-high eight starts and picked up five wins with a career-high 42 strikeouts.
 
She also limited opposing batters to a .237 average, tops on the team. In Pac-12 play, she racked up the most wins and limited left-handed batters to a .165 average
 
The jack-of-all-trades for Utah started at six different positions this season; first base, third base, left field, right field, pitcher and designated player.
 
As a sophomore, she ranked sixth in the Pac-12 with a 1.56 ERA and 5.5 hits allowed per seven innings.
 
WEEKEND RECAP
Utah won the opener against the Cardinal after Ally Dickman cracked a two-run homer and Hailey Hilburn threw the second seven-inning complete game of her career.
 
Despite taking the first game, Utah dropped the next two, hitting just .197 for the series and going 0-13 with runners in scoring position with 17 strikeouts.
 
NOSKIN A NAME TO REMEMBER
Julia Noskin has registered multiple hits in 12 contests this season after being named to the Pac-12 All-Freshmen Team in 2018. She hit .310 and led the team in runs (31), walks (15) and on-base percentage (.395).
 
Her numbers increased in conference play as she led Utah in total hits and batted .333 with a .455 on-base percentage.
 
The Calabasas, California native played every game for Utah, starting 47 in left field, and moved into the leadoff spot for the final 27 games of the season where she hit .473.
 
DYNAMIC DUO TURNING TWO
Utah has turned 20 double plays, the most in the Pac-12 and 20th nationally. The Utes turned three in a game vs. Ohio State earlier this year.
 
Julia Noskin and BreOnna Castaneda have combined for 183 assists, 42 more than second best in the conference (Inouye/Young, STAN)
