Women's Tennis To Host Colorado Saturday For Senior Day

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women's tennis team is set to host its final regular season match on Saturday, April 20 at 11 a.m. MT against Colorado at the Eccles Tennis Center for Senior Day.

Fans are encouraged to get to the Eccles Tennis Center early on Saturday morning with the Senior Day ceremony starting tentatively at 10:30 a.m. MT. The Utes will be celebrating their two seniors in Brianna Chisholm and Taylor Calton.

Chisholm enters the final regular season match as one of the most consistent student-athletes on and off the court for the Utes. She is a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, a two time Pac-12 All-Academic first-team selection and was the recipient of the 2018 ITA Mountain Region Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award.

"Utah athletics has been so inspiring to me," Chisholm said. "It is amazing to see every team working so hard and being successful. As an entire athletic department you can feel the support and push to be the best we each can be. Utah tennis has been great because I've not only had teammates but lifelong friends. Our coaches have taught us how to be great tennis players, but also great people."

Chisholm has led the Utes to its first top-40 ranking since 2014 this season, ranking as high as No. 38 nationally. They enter this week ranked 48th in the latest ITA poll.

"In my 30-plus years of Division I coaching, I have not coached more than a handful of players with Breezy's athleticism and ability to play all-court tennis," head coach Mat Iandolo said. "As great of a player as she is, she is an even better person. She leads directly from her massive heart."

Chisholm has played dominantly at the No. 1 singles and doubles position this season, coming away with nine singles wins and nine doubles victories with Madison Tattini in dual action. Chisholm's wins have been key for the Utes this season with the Kaysville, Utah native beating No. 69 Stacey Fung of Washington and No. 33 Julia Rosenqvist of California.

Calton is also a mainstay for the Utes, but has been sidelined this season with injury. The Highland, Utah native like Chisholm, has also been active off the court, earning back-to-back Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention nods as a sophomore and junior.

"The moment I offered Taylor a scholarship, she was emotionally moved because coming to Utah and playing for the Utes was a life-long dream," Iandolo said. "She has paid back our leap of faith in her several times over."

Calton is used to being in the win column since her freshman season where she came away with 13 singles victories at the No. 5 position. She started the 2016 season with seven straight wins, also garnering attention in conference play with key victories on her court against ranked foes Arizona and UCLA.

"I am so grateful for having the opportunity to play tennis for my dream school," Calton said. "I am thankful for the goals I was able to achieve on and off the court."

Last season as a junior Calton played anywhere between the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 courts, tallying eight singles wins while also being dominant with doubles partner Whitney Hekking. She also earned Pac-12 Player of the Week for her efforts against Boise State and Utah State, going undefeated in singles and doubles that weekend.

"Both of these young women are tremendous achievers in the classroom," Iandolo said. "At the end of the day, that is a major part of why we are here."
