Colorado Competes at Jack Christiansen Invitational

April 25, 2019 | Track and Field

BOULDER – The University of Colorado track and field program competes in the 2019 Jack Christiansen Invitational this Saturday at CSU.

Most of the Colorado athletes are coming off a difficult weekend in California, but one Buffalo will be making her season debut as Dani Jones is entered to run the 1,500-meter run. The last time Jones was on the track outdoors in a CU jersey was when she was fifth in the 1,500 at the 2017 NCAA National Championships. Since then she has added a runner-up finish in the indoor mile and the 2018 NCAA cross country individual title.

Jones will run with a large group of CU women in the 1,500. Karina Mann and Annie Hill are both entered at under 4;30, while Olivia Brooks, Holly Bent and Baylee Jones are all listed at under 4:35. Cayla Seligman, Bailey Nock, Kaleigh Kroeker and Kate Intile will all run in the race as well.

Another large focus for the Colorado women will be the 400 hurdles with five women entered to compete. Gabby Scott is fresh off her school record performance in the hurdles but will take a crack at the school record in the open 400 before she competes in the hurdles. Eriana Henderson, Valerie Welch, Dani Johnson and Kylie Davis will all compete in both hurdle races this weekend.

In the field events, Kylee Harr will compete in the high jump while Cheyenne Cheshier rounds out the jumps in both horizontal disciplines. Mariah Walker will toss the discus and shot, while Elisa Grandemange is entered in the javelin and hammer.

For the men, the 400 will be a large event with five entered to compete. Jon Maas will lead the group along with Kendal Smith, while 800 runners Jonathan Horton and Josh Ramos will drop down to work on speed. Decathlete Wyatt Rhoads will also compete on the track for the first time this season.

The 400 hurdle men of Aaron McCoy, Kellen Monestime and Nathan Hoy are all slated to compete. Monestime will also compete in the 110 hurdles. All three will join Maas in a 4x400 at the end of the meet.

Also for CU, Gabe Fendel will compete in the 800 while Eduardo Herrera and Gus Newcomb will compete in the 1,500.

In the jumps, Jeremy Cody and Giancarlo Narvarte will compete in the high jump with Gunner Rigsby in both the long and triple jumps. Tyler Sconce will throw the shot, discus and hammer with Brock Knechtel and Caleb Penner competing in the discus and hammer. Henry Carlson will also compete in the discus and javelin.

The hammer events begin at 10 a.m., while the rest of the field events and track events begin at 11 a.m.
