OJAI, Calif. – After yesterday's win against No. 9 Oregon, the 8thseeded University of Utah men's tennis team was unable to record a victory today against No. 1 UCLA, dropping the match 0-4. With this loss, the Utes have been eliminated from the Pac-12 Championships.
The Utes were at a disadvantage early, as they were to take the doubles point against Oregon. David Micevski and Slava Shainyan were unable to pick up a win on the No. 1 court, as they fell to the 4thoverall ranked doubles team in the country, Maxime Cressy and Keegan Smith, with a score of 1-6. To then seal the point for UCLA, Dan Little and Azat Hankuliyev fell to Govind Nanda and Connor Rapp at the No. 2 spot, with a score of 6-3. The Utes then dropped matches on the 2, 3, and 4 courts in singles, losing to UCLA with a score of 0-4.
The University of Utah men's tennis team was able to achieve an overall record of 16-10 during the 2018-19 season. The Utes were also able to record victories against three top 50 nationally ranked teams, against #40 Old Dominion, #31 Oregon, and #12 Stanford, while being able to achieve a national ranking of #41 overall this year, in which they held for three weeks. After the conclusion of the regular season, the Utes were also able to advance in the Pac-12 Championships for the time since the 2016-17 season.
