Field hockey welcomes five for the fall

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford field hockey head coach Tara Danielson announced the addition of five dynamic freshmen for the 2019 season on Monday.

The five newcomers will join an experienced squad that returns 20 of the 23 players from last season. The Cardinal, which has qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 10 of the last 12 seasons, also produced at least 13 victories for the 10th straight year in 2018. A top-25 fixture the entire year, Stanford locked up the top seed in the America East Championship after earning Offensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Co-Goalkeeper of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year.

Keeley Akagi
Keeley Akagi | Defender | San Pasqual HS | Escondido, Calif.
  • Team captain in her final season
  • Guided her team to the Avocado East League Championship in each of her four years
  • Finished as CIF runner-up in 2017 and 2018
  • Named MVP of her team as a sophomore and senior
  • Awarded CIF Sportsmanship Award as a senior
  • Three-time All-CIF selection, including first team in her final two seasons
  • Competed for Rush Field Hockey on the club side where she helped her team to the 2018 U19 Disney Showcase Championship
  • Hobbies include traveling and hiking

Megan Frost
Megan Frost | Midfielder | Myers Park HS | Charlotte, N.C.
  • Competes for USA Field Hockey
  • Played for the USFHA U-17 Jr. National Field Hockey Team in 2018 and 2019 
  • Member of the USFHA U-17 Jr. National Camp from 2016-2018
  • USFHA STX Select Elite Games and Training Camp participant in 2016 and 2017, including winning the championship in 2016
  • Three-time USFHA NFC Stars and Stripes Games participant
  • Two-time Gold Medalist at USFHA Junior Olympics
  • Served as team captain of the Myers Park field hockey team as a senior
  • Guided her team to State Championships in each of her final three seasons, and a spot in the State Championship in all four campaigns
  • Led her high school team to four consecutive conference championships and an undefeated season in 2018
  • NFHCA/Go Play Sports and Max Field Hockey All-American in 2017 & 2018
  • Max Field Hockey North Carolina Player of the Year in 2017 & 2018
  • 2018 Charlotte Observer Player of the Year
  • NCFHA All-State, All-Star, All-Region & Offensive Player of the Year from 2015-2019
  • Named Team MVP in each of her four seasons of high school – the first in program history
  • Left high school as the school record-holder in goals (115) and assists (85)
  • Competed for the Charlotte Ambush Field Hockey club team
  • Hobbies include scuba diving, snowboarding and baking
  • Also competed in soccer in high school, where she was a three-time All-Conference and All-Region pick

Caroline Reinhart
Caroline Reinhart | Attacker | St. Catherine's School | Richmond, Va.
  • Member of the 2018 USA Field Hockey U19 Regional Futures Team
  • Captain of her high school team in her final two seasons
  • Led her team to State semifinal appearances in her final two seasons
  • Two-time All-League of Independent Schools selection
  • 2018 All-State selection
  • Competed for Saints Hockey Rocks club team where her squad finished third at the 2016 National Club Championship before taking fifth (2017) and seventh (2018)
  • Hobbies include her health Instagram, fitness, fostering dogs, kayaking and playing guitar
  • Also competed in soccer in high school, helping her team to three State Championships

Lynn Vanderstichele
Lynn Vanderstichele | Attacker | King's College School | Wimbledon, London
  • Competes for England's National Team
  • Member of the England U16 squad and U18 team where she helped her team to the 2018 Bronze medal at the European Championships
  • Team captain at King's College School as a senior, helping guide her squad to the 2019 South Indoor Hockey Finals
  • Won the Freake Cup, an award given to the most promising achievement in any field of all students at her school, after winning the bronze medal at the 2019 European Championship and scoring the winning goal
  • Left school as the program record-holder for goals in a single season with 24 in 2018
  • Competed for Wimbledon Hockey Club where she guided her team to the promotion playoffs in 2017
  • Garnered Most Valuable Junior in the ladies' section in 2015
  • Hobbies include reading, tennis and running
  • Also competed in netball where she was a 2011 national champion and finished third in 2014

Rose Winter
Rose Winter | Defender | Framlingham College | Woodbridge, Suffolk
  • Competes for England's National Team, spending the 2015 and 2016 campaigns on the U16 squad before promoting to the U18 team in 2017 and 2018
  • Three-time team captain, including her final season at Framlingham College
  • Guided her teams to top-five finishes in the National Finals in 2014, 2016 and 2017, including a third-place finish in 2016
  • Competed for Harleston Magpies club field hockey team where she was twice named Player of the Season, first with the U16 squad and then again on the U18 team
  • Hobbies include horse riding, baking and being with friends
  • Brother, Archie, played for England U18 field hockey team
