Pac-12 Announces Future Men's Basketball Schedule Changes

May 02, 2019 | Men's Basketball

SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 Conference will increase its men's basketball league schedule to 20 games, beginning with the 2020-21 season, as announced on Thursday.

The Pac-12 Conference Council and Athletics Directors Committee, on recommendation from the league's head coaches, approved this change to the format of the men's basketball schedule at annual spring meetings Thursday.

The Council and the ADC also voted to approve the head coaches' recommendation to place the two additional Pac-12 Conference games in the months of November and December, with strong preference for weekend dates when students are on campus.

Additional details about the league's transition to a 20-game scheduled will be announced at a later date.

The Pac-12 has operated with an 18-game league schedule since 1978-79, the season in which the league added Arizona and Arizona State as part of the Pac-10. Prior to that change, Pac-8 play included a 14-game league schedule.

In addition, the Pac-12 has revealed the current rotation model of home and away league games for the 2019-20 season. Next season, in an 18-game league schedule, the Bruins will not play at California or Stanford and will not host league games against Oregon or Oregon State.
