SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Runnin' Utes head coach
Larry Krystkowiak has announced the addition of Alfonso Plummer to the 2019-20 roster. Plummer, a sophomore out of Arizona Western Community College, signed an NLI to join the program on Tuesday.
Â
"Alfonso is a great young man who will fit into our culture and system very well," said Krystkowiak. "He is a great shooter. He has had quite the journey so far, and we are happy to have him join our program."
Â
Plummer, who originally hails from Fajardo, Puerto Rico, played two years at WACC where this past season he averaged 18.6 points and 3.5 rebounds. He helped guide the Matadors to a 25-9 overall record, a regional championship and a trip to the NJCAA National Tournament. He also managed to shoot .482 from the field overall on the year, .438 from three-point range and .888 from the three-point line.
Â
The NJCAA Region I leader with 126 three-pointers made, Plummer would go onto earn NJCAA Division I All-American honors, while also being named ACCAC First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region.
Â
As a freshman at WACC, Plummer led the Matadors in scoring (14.9 ppg), shooting percentage (.514) and three-point shooting (.458), all while just starting three of the 33 games he played in. He also totaled 2.3 rebounds per game, while draining 103 three-pointers.
Â
Plummer totaled 20-plus points in 10 games as a freshman and then posted 20-point efforts in 16 contests this past season as a sophomore. His career-high was a 36-point contest against Yuba College in the 2018-19 season.
