SAN FRANCISCO – The University of Utah men's tennis program earned five spots on the 2019 Pac-12 All-Academic teams, the fourth straight season with four or more student-athletes garnering all-academic selections.
Utah's selections were highlighted by
Slava Shainyan, who notched a first-team nod for the second straight year, becoming the third Ute to repeat first-team honors. He is working toward a degree in management with a 3.66 GPA after wrapping up his junior campaign that consisted of 11 singles wins at the No. 3 position.
Dan Little and
David Micevski were both named to the second-team for their third straight seasons being selected to the all-academic teams. Little, who earned second-team honors in 2018 and honorable mention status in 2017, graduated with his degree in management with a 3.58 GPA.
Little and Micevski played at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions this season with Little compiling 15 singles wins that included six over ranked opponents while Micevski had 13 singles wins, only losing four. Micevski also majored in management with a 3.60 GPA.
Joe Woolley and
Russell Benkaim earned spots on the honorable mention squad with Woolley earning his third straight all-academic nod and Benkaim earning his first. Woolley completed his degree in communications this year while Benkaim is currently in pre-business after wrapping up his sophomore year.Â
