Freshman guard helps bolster lineup

BOULDER – Colorado women's basketball head coach JR Payne announced the signing of Zuzanna Kulinska for the 2019 recruiting class on Wednesday.

Kulinska, a native of Gdynia, Poland, has plenty of international experience. She has represented her native Poland on FIBA circuit. Internationally she has averaged 6.9 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.

"We are so excited to welcome Zuzia to Boulder and our Buff family," Payne stated. "Zuzia will be a great addition to our backcourt over the next four years. She brings a wealth of international experience and a tenacity that is very rare. Buff fans will love the way that Zuzia plays this great game."

The 5-foot-11 guard spent last season stateside, playing at the New York Military Academy (NYMA) in Hudson, New York. She earned MVP honors in the New England Private School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) Class E Championship, leading NYMA to a 93-34 win over Chase Collegiate School. It was NYMA's first girl's NEPSAC Championship in school history.

Kulinska earned NEPSAC League MVP honors in her lone season at NYMA. She was the NEPSAC's top scorer in 2018 and became the first player in NYMA history to score over 550 points in one season, totaling a school-record 729 points. Kulinska averaged an impressive 24.33 points per game in 2018.

Kulinska also lettered in tennis and volleyball at NYMA. She also played AAU basketball with City Rocks International.

Prior to NYMA, Kulinska played 23 games for VBW GTK II Gydnia in the 1 Women's League. She totaled 207 points and 71 assists. Kulinska also played with VBW GTK Gdynia in the 2017-18 U18 Women's Polish Championship. She averaged 12.3 points and 3.5 assists in eight games.

Playing at Colorado could make for a reunion of sorts. Kulinska was one of 63 international players invited to Basketball Without Borders (BWB) in Serbia in 2018. Gary Harris and Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets were two of the NBA representatives. BWB is the NBA and FIBA's global basketball development and community outreach program that unites young basketball players to promote the sport and encourage positive social change in the areas of education, health, and wellness.
