Cats Conclude Play at Louisville Regional

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Arizona Wildcats concluded play at the NCAA Louisville Regional on Wednesday, finishing in ninth place at 17-over par. The Cats shot a 7-over, 291 on the final day of competition.

With the ninth place finish, Arizona did not qualify for the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas and complete its season with back-to-back NCAA Regional appearances.

Arizona was paced Wednesday by Brad Reeves, who had his best round of the tournament. Reeves shot a 2-under 69, picking up three birdies and an eagle on his round. Reeves shot a 2-under 33 on the front nine, before picking up an eagle on the par-five 13th. It was his 12th round of par or better this season, which stands as the third-most on the team.

"I played well today," said Reeves, who finished in a tie for 29th overall. "I put myself in places where I could score, and I capitalized on some of the opportunities. It's disappointing to see the end result with the team but all we can do now is learn from this experience, and bring those lessons with us into next season."

Trevor Werbylo shot an even-par 71 in his final round, picking up three birdies in his round. Werbylo finished in a tie for second place, one shot behind the individual winner, Trip Kinney, from Iowa State. Werbylo's second-place finish is the highest by an Arizona golfer in Regional play since Tarquin MacManus won the NCAA Southeast Regional in 2009.

Werbylo missed advancing to the NCAA Championships as an individual by one stroke to Kinney, who earned the spot out of the Louisville Regional.

"Today was very close to being a really good day," Werbylo said. "I had a bunch of putts that barely missed. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make any birdies on my last few holes, and fell just short.

"All in all, it was a solid week, but we're obviously disappointed not to be going on to Nationals."

David Laskin completed his tournament with a round of 74, picking up three birdies. He finished tied for 48th at nine over par. Briggs Duce shot a 77 and finished in 50th place, while Ethan Marcus finished tied for 68th at 17-over.
