OTTAWA, Ontario – Cal sophomore hammer thrower Camryn Rogers was named the Eric E. Coy Trophy Award winner this week as the top Canadian U20 Track & Field Athlete in the country. Athletics Canada, the governing body of track & field in Canada announced the awards this week.

Rogers holds the U18, U20 and U23 hammer throw records in Canadian history. She set the U20 record last year with a throw of 65.61m/215-3 at the 2018 Brutus Hamilton Challenge. She has come back even better in 2019, setting the U23 record with a throw of 69.79m/229-0 at the Pac-12 Championship this past weekend. Rogers defeated both Alyssa Wilson and Beatrice Llano to win the Pac-12 title in a matchup that featured the top three hammer throwers in the NCAA this year. Rogers set the U18 record in December 2015, before she enrolled at Cal. Her U18 mark of 65.16m was set at the BC Athletics Jamboree.

Last summer, Rogers won the U20 World Championship in the hammer throw in Tampere, Finland. She recorded a throw of 64.90m/212-11 on her first attempt to outpace the field and claim the title as the best junior hammer thrower in the world.

Rogers also holds the Cal school record in the hammer throw and ranks second in school history in the weight throw. Her career-best weight throw is 69-1.25 which she set this year at the UW Invitational.

Rogers won the award over finalists Keira Christie-Galloway, who attends Iowa State, and Anastas Eliopoulos, who is enrolled at the University of British Columbia. The Eric E. Coy Trophy is named for Canadian discus and shot put star Eric Coy who represented Canada in the 1948 Olympics. He went on to coach Canadian athletes in track & field, ice hockey and wrestling.
