FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – No. 7 Stanford sits in a tie for third following the first day of NCAA Championships at Blessings Golf Club. The Cardinal shot a 12-over 304 on a day where tough conditions added to an already challenging course. Albane Valenzuela and Aline Krauter sit tied for fifth at 1-over (74) to lead the Cardinal into day two.

"Today was a positive first day," Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf Anne Walker said. "We didn't let the course conditions affect us throughout the day and played through some bad shots. Aline (Krauter) and Emily (Ziyi Wang) showed a lot of heart and I thought Mika (Liu) played better than her score indicated. Albane (Valenzuela) was her usual steady self and Andrea (Lee) was solid until the last few holes."

Valenzuela and Krauter both shot 1-over 74s on Friday and both sit five strokes off the individual lead. The Cardinal started Friday's round on the back nine and played those holes 8-over as a team, of the scores that counted on the day. As a team, Stanford totaled eight birdies on the back nine and six on the front nine.

Valenzuela was 1-over on the back nine with two birdies and three bogeys. She was then even-par on the front nine, finishing her round with a birdie on No. 9. Krauter played the back nine at 2-over but was 1-under on the front nine to finish the round strong.

Andrea Lee was even on the back nine, with two birdies and a double. She then posted six pars, two bogeys and a double on the front nine to finish 4-over for the day. Ziyi Wang went out at 5-over with two birdies, two bogeys, a double and a triple. She would recover nicely on the front nine, though, to factor into the team's scoring at 6-over on the day. She birdies three holes to go along with two bogeys and a double on the front nine to finish 1-over on that side.

The Cardinal will continue at NCAA Championships on Saturday morning with their tee times beginning at 8:06 a.m. CT/6:06 a.m. PT.
