Emma Wilson Wins Southwest Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award

TUCSON, Ariz. – Senior Emma Wilson has been awarded the Southwest Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award, the ITA announced. The ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award recognizes outstanding individuals in all divisions at the regional and national level.

This award which dates back to 1982, goes to NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and JUCO men's and women's players who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.

"Emma Wilson represents everything a student-athlete should," head coach Ryan Stotland said. "She has led by example since the moment she showed up and this is one of the most prestigious national awards. Emma has a perfect 4.0 GPA while also being ranked as high as No. 86 in singles and No. 41 in doubles. She made an impact immediately and helped this team reach new heights. Her idea is to start something special.  She has always been a team player and extremely unselfish. I know one thing, and that was I was very lucky to always have had Emma on my team."

Last year, Wilson was selected as the ITA Northwest Region's recipient of the 2018 Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship and Leadership Award while attending Fresno State.

Wilson was named honorable mention All-Pac-12 as well last week, becoming the first Wildcat since Lauren Marker in 2017 to be named All-Pac-12.

The Newcastle, England native finished the spring season with nine wins at the No. 1 spot in the lineup as well as 19 total wins, which includes the fall season as well.

It was Wilson's third All-Conference honor as she was a two-time All-Mountain West honoree before transferring to Arizona for her senior season. She has amassed over 70 singles wins in her career and is currently tabbed as the No. 70 doubles pairing in the country alongside Sophia Thomas.

The team also won the ITA Southwest Community Service award for their work in the Tucson community.
