ORLANDO, Fla. – The second-seeded pair of Maxime Cressy and Keegan Smith advanced to the NCAA Championships Round of 16 on the first day of doubles play at the USTA National Campus.

The tandem was challenged, but prevailed in straight sets. Smith, meanwhile, had his singles journey stopped in the second round.

Facing off against Old Dominion's combination of Aziz Kijametovic and Francois Musitelli, Cressy-Smith picked up an early break of serve and rode it to a 6-4 first-set win. The Bruins replicated their performance in the second, improving their record to 17-0 on the year. The 6-4, 6-4 victory marked Cressy-Smith's first in a best-of-three-set format.

A back-and-forth first opening resulted in a tiebreaker between No. 36 Smith and No. 23 Timo Stodder of Tennessee in singles play. The Volunteer came out on top of that one, edging his counterpart by a 7-5 score. Stodder carried momentum into the second, where he ended Smith's winning streak at 13 matches with a 7-6(5), 6-2 result. The Bruin dropped to 24-6 for the year. He went 15-2 during the dual-match campaign.

Next up for Cressy-Smith is a Round-of-16 date with 29th-ranked Marko Ilic and Hendrik Inno of Belmont. Ilic-Inno won each of its sets by way of tiebreaker, upsetting 19th-ranked McClain Kessler and Duarte Vale of Florida in the process. First serve in Wednesday's match is scheduled for 2 p.m., PT.
