Cardinal earns at-large bid for 11th straight championship regatta

STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford women's rowing program earned its 11th consecutive bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championships when selections were announced Tuesday afternoon.

Stanford is set to race three boats in the championship competition: the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four. The varsity eight earned the No. 3 seed and  will race in lane three of the third heat alongside Rhode Island, Rutgers, Michigan, Harvard, and Marist. The third-seeded second varsity eight will race in Heat 3 against Iowa, Duke, Texas, Wisconsin and Marist. Stanford's varsity four earned a No. 2 in the championship regatta, racing in Heat 2 with UNavy, Yale, Duke and UCF.

The Cardinal was one of 22 teams overall and one of 11 at-large bids to make up the 2019 NCAA Championship field. May 31-June 2 at the Indianapolis Rowing Center at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis with Indiana University, Bloomington, and the Indiana SportsCorp serving as hosts. 

Stanford is coming off a second-place finish in the Pac-12 Championships this past Sunday at Lake Natoma in Gold River, California. Each of the Cardinal's boats earned silver finishes in the conference championship regatta.

Last season, the Cardinal enjoyed a podium finish for the third time in five years, placing fourth as a team at the NCAA Championships.

This is the 14th all-time appearance and 11th consecutive year Stanford has earned a bid to the NCAA Championships. The Cardinal last won the team title in 2009.
