STANFORD, Calif. – Head coach
Kevin Hambly has announced the signing of top recruit, Team IMPACT's Jahbriah Kaho (San Mateo, Calif.), to join an already outstanding incoming class.
"This is a really exciting day for the Stanford volleyball program," said Hambly. "We've been anticipating this day since we started talking to Jahbriah and her family about joining our program. It's exciting to get to make this official.
"Since we've gotten to know Jahbriah and the energy and enthusiasm that she brings has already helped our program be better."
Diagnosed with an intracranial tumor on Feb. 23, 2018, Jahbriah spent two and a half weeks in the Lucile Packard PICU and endured four procedures. Now in seventh grade, she enjoys playing soccer and choreographing dances with her siblings.
"Our team is just so excited to have Jahbriah and her family in our program," said sophomore
Meghan McClure. "She brings a breath of fresh air, a spirit of joy and hard work that I think reminds all of us of the privileges and gifts we have to participate in Stanford Athletics. We're so excited to have a teammate that is so joyful and reminds us every day why we love volleyball."
Team IMPACT is a national nonprofit that connects children facing serious and chronic illnesses with college athletic teams, forming life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes. It creates a network of support where children are officially drafted to the team and become full-fledged members of the program, attending practices, games, team activities and more.
"We've been really blessed with Team IMPACT. We have gone through a lot in a year and then this opportunity just came out of nowhere," said Jahbriah's mother, Tricia Kaho. "We're just trying to get through life one day at a time and they popped up. They surprised us and matched us with a team Jahbriah had hoped for.
"They got the ball rolling really quickly without much energy from me. They've been a real blessing. They make things really easy by opening up the lines of communication for us. We feel so fortunate to be a part of this team because they've opened their arms to us and made us feel at home here. Team IMPACT has been wonderful and we are so grateful for them."
