SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Sun Devil sprinters took center stage Friday as Josephine Anokye and Jeminise Parris both advanced automatically to the quarterfinal rounds of their respective events.

Parris was the first Sun Devil to move on to the next round at the Prelims when she clocked a personal best 13.53 and grabbed third in her heat for the automatic qualifying place. The newcomer will lineup in lane three tomorrow for a chance to get to the NCAA Championship at the first time of asking.

Just like the prelims, the top-three finishers in each heat will automatically qualify for the meet in Austin, and the next three fastest times move on to the Texan capital.

Another newcomer in Anokye cruised to a spot in the 200-meter quarterfinal with a second-place finish in her heat. She finished the race in 23.11, which was good enough for sixth overall and earned her lane four in Saturday's quarterfinal.

The final day of the Prelims will see the returns of Bianca Tinoco and William Paulson to the Hornet Stadium track in the 1,500-meter quarterfinals. Both Sun Devils will be looking to finish in the top-five of their respective heats to clinch automatic bids to Austin.

Saturday will also feature Ian Schulz in the shot put, NCAA champion Samantha Noennig seeking her second NCAA appearance in the outdoor shot, the women's 4x100-meter relay team and Fearghal Curtin and John Reniewicki in the 5,000.
