SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Utah's
Sarah Newton and
Brooke Manson closed out their 2019 season at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships on Friday, competing at Hornet Stadium.
Newton finished the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.70, while Manson finished in a time of 2:13.28. Both Newton and Manson qualified for the quarterfinal event after last night's first round, but neither athlete's time moved them onto the NCAA Finals.
"Sarah and Brooke ran hard tonight," said Utah head coach
Kyle Kepler. "They were in it on the quick opening lap, but just didn't have it over the last 300 meters. Sarah advanced a round further than a year ago and Brooke is one of the few true freshmen at this meet. So, while we always want more, it's hard to be anything but excited for their future as they move forward."
Utah will round out competition at the West Prelims tomorrow with
Sarah Feeny and
Bella Williams both competing in the 5K. Feeny will also run in the 1500-meter quarterfinals.
