Junior
Chun An Yu has put himself in position to challenge for the national title on Monday at the 2019 NCAA Men's Golf Championships held at the challenging and tough Blessings Golf Club (7,550 yards/par-72) in Fayetteville.
Â
He continued his solid play Sunday with a 1-under 70. He is at 3-under 213 (69-74-70) and in fourth, four shots back of leader Matthew Wolff of Oklahoma State (73-66-70) who is at 7-under 209. Yu has stayed in contention by shooting par on the par 4 holes, as only Wolff (2-under) has been better, and Yu has posted 34 pars, just three off the tournament best. In his 11 tournaments (34 rounds) this year he now has a 69.12 stroke average with 16 rounds in the 60s and 27 rounds of par or better.
"I played really well today and the whole week," said Yu, one of only nine players to be under par in the 156-player field. "Hopefully, tomorrow is another great day and I can play better and win the trophy. It feels really good. I'm four shots back so tomorrow I'm just going to give it all I've got and hopefully, I can win it. I just want to keep doing the things I've been doing. I played great today, the only bad thing that happened was missing the tee shot on hole 16 so I'm going to keep the same game plan."
The Sun Devils shot a 15-over 303 on Sunday morning but just missed the 15-team cut by one shot. ASU finished at 37-over 901 (302-296-303), one shot behind USC who charged ahead in the afternoon wave and shot 36-over 900.
Yu will tee at 1:23 p.m.
FreshmanÂ
Cameron Sisk closed out his solid freshman season, as his 71.18 stroke average ended as the best by any Sun Devil freshman, with some pretty good golfers on the list dating to 1985. He earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Year.

ONLY US: Arizona State in 1990 remains the only program to have its men's and women's teams win the NCAA golf championships in the same season (1990). Nine teams (ASU, Auburn, Duke, Illinois, Stanford, Texas, USC, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest) had a shot this year, but with Duke being eliminated from the men's tournament Sunday the Sun Devils remain the sole dual champion.
